Noise.
Noise.
Noise was everywhere. Those prisoners never sleep! My intentions to get a proper amount of sleep failed million times because of their dramatic screams that echoed in the whole building.
“I am fucking innocent!”
“I can’t believe that killing a wife who cheated on you is considered as a crime!” so funny
“Fuck you all!”
Noise.
I tossed on the bed for the millionth time this night. The shabby bed felt nothing like the smoothness I used to have somewhere\ sometime.
I remembered the last conversation I had with Satoshi. I tried to make sense of it. Reciting the whole thing- with his deadly serious face-, he was unmistakably sure of what he said. So, according to his words, Sakurai Jun was the one who put me in jail. Even though he cares about me, he threw me here. He must have a really good motive behind all of his actions, and a really convincible argument to claim it in the court, otherwise, I- a mad man- won’t be put in a jail. Wait a minute; I was at the edge of madness two or three days ago. But maybe I was normal before?
I rolled my eyes at the idea as I recalled the images of Sakurai Jun pleading and screaming out of pain, while bruises were all over his body. These images added more confusion in my mind. Was it just my imagination trying to torture me? Or was it nothing but my lost memories? I was afraid it would be the later. There is a chance that I am a cruel hideous criminal!! No, I must not be deceived. Speaking of which this might not be a jail, it might be sanatorium! No, this is nonsense, people seem so normal. Kind of...
During the whole day, I fought the urge to ask Satoshi about further details, and I kept busying myself with other stuff. Stuffs Masaki and Kazunari kept teaching me. They called it “Baby steps”
Trying to connect the pieces, I drifted to sleep deeply.
At 06:00 AM, the cops came for me again and took me to another white room. Masaki and Kazunari kept giving them a threatening gazes. Funny. I hoped I wouldn’t meet up with Sakurai Jun. I wasn’t ready yet. Luckily, it wasn’t him. They were a bunch of people who claimed to be doctors.
“The new environment was so effective for him. He understands now what people say.” That when it hit me. That’s true! I was positively shocked.
“But his reactions didn’t change that much.” Said a man with a raspy voice. I could blame the coldness for that.
“He doesn’t have that monstrous look anymore.” A man wearing glasses said. He didn’t glance at me and he kept writing down notes, surely about my condition. He went through his notes, then said, “He let his visitor touch him. I think it is a good progress.”
A taller man shook his head. Apparently, not convinced at all of what his colleague was saying, “Don’t forget his reaction when the three guys attacked him. He screamed things like (They are the same as those who buried me…) or (The same as who cut my skin…) he is unstable, even it is a sign that he starts to remember stuff.”
“But I don’t think he’s aware of anything.” All of them nodded. Then they all turned to me. I felt nothing. Not terrified of their eyes, nor counting the seconds and even looking them straight in the eyes.
“Listen. We will ask you questions. Nod if the answer is (yes). And shake your head if not. Do you understand?” I slightly nodded my head while raising my eyebrow. One of them frowned, maybe questioning my cocky attitude.
“Your name is Matsumoto Sho.” I shook my head. Sakurai Jun told me that I am a Sakurai. Like him. He is a relative. I was sure of that. However, their faces showed that it wasn’t the answer they wanted. They exchanged a look between each other.
“What? He doesn’t even know his name?” A blonde guy said in a fake accent. His voice had a weird trace of disappointment. “Ask him again.” He ordered, and I came to think that he was the guy in charge here.
“Your name is Sho.” I nodded.
“Matsumoto Sho.” I shook my head.
“Maybe he doesn’t remember his sur name.”
“Oh, right! His visitor said that he is a (sakurai)” I nodded to the guy really hard, wishing he would capture my confusion too.
“Why would he tell him a lie” A lie?
“Your name is Matsumoto Sho. Do you get it?” I nodded. A lie?

“WAKE UP!” I snapped my eyes open and jumped up. I wasn’t in the questioning room by then. I was in my cell with Masaki and Kazunari. A rush of images, voices, information came to my mind. It was such a pleasuring feeling. I smirked.
We can do it, Sho. I love you. I will sacrifice everything for you.
Masaki and Kazunari were beside my bed looking at me. Waiting for me to say something. I giggled at them, which made them a little bit confused.
“I’m not the mad guy you knew. I kind of regained my previous self.” I said as calm as I can. They exchanged a look between them and Masaki came to sit beside me.
“We can see that.” Masaki partly whispered. He looked at me for a long while, then asked “Am I going to miss the previous you?” It was like stating fact more than a question .He gave me an impression that he may miss the guy who wasn’t talking, the one who was scared of the tiniest thing that surrounded him.
“I might also miss the mad me. However, Masaki- Kazunari, you have to accept me the way I am. It’s still me- Sho.” I partly pleaded, which was weird for the real me. They immediately started giggling at the comment.
“We will miss protecting you,” Kazunari said jokingly as he put his arms around my shoulder and pushed me to his shoulder. He was warm.
“Oh, believe me, this is the least thing you’d miss. I am a troublemaker!” I said as a matter of fact. We laughed together.
“So… What they did to you to make you become like this?”
“It is a quite complicated thing. They reminded me of my name.” I shrugged. He rolled his eyes and nodded for me to continue by raising his eyebrows. I gave him a challenging look, and he rolled his eyes again.
“Come on! You know I don’t get it!” It was so interesting seeing the cocky Kazunari get offended for something he doesn’t know.
“You can say that somebody was trying to confuse my memories by giving me a compound name.” I started explaining. “You know, the human mind works like a net, if there is something wrong in a specific part, the whole organ will be messed up. Just like my condition the first time you saw me.” I sighed and stilled silent for a little bit. Nino was thinking deeply about what I said, but by the look in Masaki’s face, I discovered that I needed to go on, “So, once they mentioned my real name, it was like ‘snap’ everything came back.”
“So your real name is-?”
“Matsumoto Sho.”
“From the Matsumoto Corporation?” They said in sync. Which was so weird. I gave them a suspicious look and they started cracking out.
“Yes,” I answered them. They just exchanged a look. “What? What?”
“Actually… we were captured in your house trying to steal, let’s say, valuable things.”
I opened my mouth wide, unable to utter a thing and I ended up laugh at this. “What a coincidence.” We stood silent for a little bit. I raised my eyes to meet theirs and I smiled genuinely and said, “Once I get out of here, I’ll let you go.”
“What makes us believe you won’t betray us?” Kazunari said half-serious half joking.
“Because we are friends, motherfucker.” I said immediately not thinking about it.
“We told you not to use this word!” Masaki yelled as he jumped in top of me and started brushing my hair.
“Promise?” I heard Kazunari’s voice. So calm. So anticipated.
“Promise.”

hmm?
what do you think?
