This post's probably gonna be all over the place, but who cares right? It's been a pretty hectic Saturday for me as I had to attend a few hours' worth of conference talks at the Suntec City Exhibition Halls in the morning then walked from the City Hall MRT to Orchard Road. Random things I found when I was out and about today:
- Cineleisure/Cineplex has some pretty nifty shops. I particularly loved one of the shops there that stocked up on vintage memorabilia such as wind-up tin toys and teapot sets. Almost bought a set of mini wooden vegetables for my mom. Maybe I will return to get them at a later date...
- The Final Fantasy XIII Kai Odin figure took me entirely by surprise as I was window shopping at Singapore Plaza. The amount of intricate details on that model is beyond what I expected but luckily I didn't give in to my impulse to buy it on the spot, which proved to be a good thing as most of the reviews online seem to point out major manufacturing flaws (heavy equipment, wonky joints, and lousy posability). On a separate note,
carneaglariel, I found the FFXIII Shiva motorcycle being sold at Bugis Junction for around 500+ SGD 8> I-I think I might give that a pass OTL.
- The Strong World versions of Zoro and Chopper have finally hit stores and I still haven't gotten Usopp yet even though I want to so badly. I think it has everything to do with the fact that I might go on an impulse buying spree once I get my first one; once I get one, I might consider getting all nine of them, which will be very bad for my wallet. Very bad indeed. I keep telling myself that I would get him once I get my paycheck and that was even before
futomimii left! I should get a grip and just buy it 2 weeks from now when I get my October paycheck, waaah. I also found another candy toy that I was tempted to get:
Chopper Robo. I sense more mascot abuse to come.
- Ok, one last thing about models: I found a really awesome full-body 1:6 scale sculpt of Gambit that I wouldn't mind getting if I only had the space to display it. Urrrrrrgh I am such a model/collectible whore.
During my online search for the Odin model's reviews I stumbled onto
this particular post and I'm pretty sure now that if I ever do visit Sunshine Plaza again I'm probably gonna buy the King Kazma Nendroid if they have it in stock. IYAAAAAA MODELWHORE /flails
...you know what I'm gonna make this impromptu shopping-list for the things I wanna get (in no particular order or deadline) as a reminder:
- The Art of Toy Story 3 (68+ SGD)
- Strong World version Usopp P.O.P (136+ SGD)
- Pixiv Quarterly Volume 2 (22+ SGD IIRC)
- Shigenori Soejima Artbook (50+ SGD, still unsure)
These are mostly 'wants' which I can afford to get anytime at the moment but I feel so guilty whenever I spend on anything that costs more than 50 SGD IDK WHYYY.
The whole point of walking around was to satisfy my curiosity on whether UrbanWrite and Prologue at Somerset and ION respectively carried any watercolour selections (They didn't). I already visited ArtFriends last night but they only stock watercolours at both ends of the specturm; the really good but expensive ones and the really cheap but sucky ones. In the end I went back to Tiong Bahru Mall to get a 25-colour watercolour set from Popular. So much for travelling so far to get something that you can literally get on your own front yard.
I took a few photos yesterday and today that I thought of sharing, so here you go.
I saw this at the end of Day 1 of the conference. Half expected it to stand up and go 'Boo!'.
The next 3 pictures are art sculptures that are currently on display along Orchard Road.
A Merlion made out of used tyres. Mad props to the artist of this one. *salutes*
A larger-than-life sculpture of a sexy lady. It's a wonder how the sculptor managed to get the anatomy correct dealing with such a huge piece of work!
Lastly,
I found myself liking this week's episode 'Duets' more than I originally thought I would, and this was mainly because it had more of a balance between the 'underdog' characters on the show *COUGHMIKECHANGCOUGH*. What really irritated me though was some of the comments on the communities where some folks who first complained about the show's overbearing focus on Rachel/Finn/Kurt/Mr Schu turned around and complained about this particular episode's lack of focus. This really has me stumped. Of course there's no focus when there's enough screentime spread out between most of the characters, and isn't that what you wanted in the first place anyway? I guess I shouldn't be surprised really as every fandom has their trolls and there's really no pleasing them no matter what you do. *listens to Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy*
Wow everything I've written above sounds so disjointed somehow. That's what happens when I don't bother collecting my thoughts first before writing but phew, glad that's done with. My LJ writing skills are slowly being corroded by Twitter and FB! /excuses
