The movers I hired a month ago wanted me to pay half up front and half on delivery. I accepted their terms, but when they came to pick up my stuff, their hand-held credit card machine couldn't get signal. So after trying a few times and calling their merchant account provider people, they did the transaction over the phone and took an imprint.
So I wasn't very surprised to find that on delivery, their credit card machine wasn't working either. They asked for a second card to try, so I gave them my Visa after I gave them my Mastercard. That didn't work either, so they had me call up my bank. My bank tells me they don't even see any refused charges, so I go back to them, and they try charging $1 to their own card. That fails, so they called their merchant account people, and got it fixed. So I ended up signing the charge on my Mastercard.
Skip to yesterday, when I got my statement for last month, and I see a charge on both my Visa and Mastercard for the same amount on the same day. I called their billing department, and their billing department says they reversed the charges on the Visa. That's a little annoying, but as long as they fixed it...
I also got my security deposit back from my garage and apartment in NJ. A month and a half worth of NJ rent is a lot of money.
