I am a proud member of one of the baddest bicycle gangs in Urbana-Champaign (we are SO nerdy!). Tha Beekeeper loves to ride his bike and now that I finally have a working bike I've gotten to go with him. He showed me the biggest hill in Champaign-Urbana, which is great to see sunsets, the werewolf layer, and the ability of ridding for 15-20 mins between Orchard Downs and the Japanese house and end up at the starting point.
Thursday evening we took Miggle out and we started just venturing East deep into Urbana. We took Main st. almost all the way to the Walmart from downtown. We thought that we had passed the Walmart already and there were no side roads in sight. Traffic was getting a bit heavy for us so we made a right turn on the first road we saw and we ended up in this really nice neighborhood with really pretty hip high street lights next to every drive way. There were people on the road talking to each other that greeted us with much delight. It was a really beautiful trailer park. We rode around it, saw all the different desings; the people were all looking at us..."yeah, we are bad ass" I said to my self. There was no outlet so we ended up back in Main st. We kept going east and took a side road that branched off of Main St. and then we saw corn fields and Walmart to our right.
Now we were heading south. It was really nice because there were hardly any cars and the wind had died down. We ran into Windsor and decided to continue south just to venture. We then ran into a farm with llamas and what looked like miniature donkeys. We stopped and took a break. The animals were VERY interested to see us. I got close but was afraid to touch them.
We decided that we should go back to Windsor (since we know where it would take us) because the sun was setting quite fast. The boys then started singing 80s big hair band music...it was hilarious just to hear them TRY to sing these songs. The were TRYING due to their singing abilities but also because they only new the chorus or a few words here and there. We went into this golf course subdivision for some particular reason, rode around there then went back to Windsor heading west and found High cross road...we still have a bit to go...Miggle wanted to see the plantation that Beekeeper and I got at Meadowbrook Park, so we made a stop and changed oil.
It was quite dark already, maybe 8:15pm, which is perfect time to go and see werewolfs over by Orchard Downs. We head over there and start going down a dirt road off of Florida west of Race St. This is were Beekeeper saw some dark creatures running towards him once. I saw the bee hives and thought to myself "we are getting close, this is going to be awesome!". Beekeeper was leading the way and a couple of yards behind Miggle and I were ridding side by side talking. I hear Beekeeper "singing" when all of the sudden I hear a scream of terror. At this point we were right past the werewolf layer - an area that as you are heading north there is a fence to your right and tall grass to your left. Beekeeper was right next to a small trail that goes east-west when he screamed. I could hardly see anything because it was quite dark, All I could see was this huge white thing heading towards me. I see Beekeeper trying to gain control of his bike, while this white thing is approaching, galloping my way. Then I see a man right at the point were the two trails meet yelling a name...then I realized it was a dog. I kept pedaling and told the man he scared us since we new werewolfs lived around there. I reach Beekeeper and he was still in shock of what happened. He swore that it was a werewolf and that he was doomed (he started believing his own stories). I COULD NOT stop laughing at him...
We reached the highest hill in Champaign-Urbana, observed the purple sky and raced down it to head back home....What an awesome night terrorizing the neighborhood!
