color me curious

I'm really in a quandary as to how to go about getting my copy of DH on release day (yes, already. I lead a sad, sad life.). It wouldn't be such a dilemma but with William it is one. I've never had a book in the series spoiled for me, and I'm certainly not going to start now. That being said, I cannot go out in public, turn on the TV, or go online until I've finished reading. Jim was told as soon as the date was announced that he was on Baby Duty the weekend of release (I'll be available for feedings, of course) so I can read.

As I see it I have four options, each with pros and cons.

1. Midnight release party: Pros - Get book as soon as is humanly possible. Cons - Unlikely to be able to attend because of William (sure he is sleeping mostly through the night now, let alone in 1 1/2 months, but honestly? Husband doesn't always cope well with Will when he's alone). Not sure if I'll be able to function out in public this late at night. Not sure if I'll even be able to handle being out till 3am. Have to go by myself, which is really sad and pathetic (I'd be going only to get the book, not joining the festivities).

2. Amazon: Pros - Book is delivered to home on release day. Easiest, no-fuss way to get book. Eliminates the need to stay up Friday night reading (plz to note, I'll be tired by the end of Friday night, whereas if I have to stay up Saturday night, it won't be such a biggie since I'll have done nothing but read all day Sat. :P ). Cons - Have heard horror stories of peoples' books not arriving on release day despite Amazon's guarantee. Amazon only guarantees delivery by something stupid like 7pm. Anything after noon would be unacceptable since I only have Saturday and Sunday to read relatively uninterrupted (see Baby Duty above). I'm not certain if I can sit around waiting till it arrives.

3. 24-hour grocery store down the road: Pros - Rumor had it during HBP release that they had ample copies and no lines. Could get book right at midnight probably or first thing in the morning. Like plan 2, going in the morning eliminates the need to stay up all night Friday night reading. Cons - Risk factor is high, imo. Not sure I can count on them having enough copies of book or no lines. Sort of pros - Lines at midnight, I can just leave. No books in the morning, I can result to plan 4.

4. Bookstore on release day morning: Pros - Odds are high that they'll have plenty of copies leftover. Again, eliminates need to stay up Friday night reading. Cons - Have to wait till late morning to go and will probably run into a big crowd.

So, a poll to see what your experiences were. I've broken it up into OotP and HBP since the two releases were rather night and day. For the record, I Amazon'd OotP and it arrived in the morning, so had plenty of time over the weekend to read. I worked at BN midnight release party for HBP so got home about 4am to begin reading and finished in the afternoon.
