JKR New info on site stuff

So I've typed out into a spreadsheet the OotP notes, for two reasons: 1. I'm a dork and just do things like that because it's easier to read, 2. I'm the type that has to physically write stuff (or type stuff!) for it to sink in ( Read more... )

I do think she had Tonks/Remus planned out. I closed OotP and knew that there would be something there in the future. In fact, it almost changed a major sub-plotline in Tapestry before I decided to ignore it.

That one seemed kind of obvious to me as I read and it peeved me because I REALLY had Remus/Hermione in my head to end the books with, even though I conceded that she and Ron would date before she got over it and went to Remus.

Wow Remus/Hermione? I've never heard anyone say that they thought that'd be actual canon, though I suppose it does make sense, despite the age difference.

I know there are people (like you!) who thought Remus/Tonks would happen, but I've *still* never been able to figure out how. Me and about a squillion other people I know don't think there's any evidence to support it: they're barely even mentioned in the same scenes. Flummoxes me to no end. :)

I think it was a very strong instinct. Two adults, both single, one rather cute and fluffy with a slight dangerous side, the other rather dangerous with a slight fluffy side... He's lonely, straight and single, she's pretty straight and single, it's a war... it HAD to happen.

RL/HG is somethign that in the "reality" of these people, I really do think will happen - in another 5 years. He's a cause she can concentrate on, she's smart enough to keep his concentration and he's clever enough to engage her mind. I have made book on her being turned into a werewolf in book 7 by Greyack.

actually, there is an instance where Tonks comes down for breakfast early with Lupin, implying that she stayed the night. She also mentions that she's exhausted which could lead to all sorts of implications. I only just noticed it on a further read of OotP.

Hmmm, I suppose you're right about that one. OK, so one paltry mention. *stubborn* :D

I only remember because I like audibly gasped and was like 'NO WAY!' And I was going to write fic around it, using it as a quote but never did. ah well. :)

Well, isn't that always the way? ;) I know exactly the part you mean and I think I've just managed to pretend that there could be absolutely no implications to it! lol

I'm going to have to beg to differ with you on the time it takes to write. Even if one has an outline and maps out where they want their story to go, it is not an easy thing to write something feature length from point A to point Z. I found this out firsthand when I wrote a novel length fan-fic (over 300 pages in Word). I knew what my outcome was. I knew incidents in between. I knew my OC's backgrounds as well as I knew the backgrounds of Rowling's characters. However, as in any writing project, there are some days when you stare at a blank screen and the words will simply not come. Considering the complexity of OotP including the number of characters and subplots, anything less than five years is pretty damn good. I can't remember how many years it took Margaret Mitchell to write "Gone With the Wind," and that's well over 1,000 pages. Now once the entire story is on disc, don't forget the amount of polishing and editing it takes to make something better than fan fic. We want things faster than two years because we want to ( ... )

You misunderstood my meaning. I am saying that there are lots of bumps along the way and that is why it takes two years to write her books. Personally, I wish she'd take longer to write them! I just meant that if she knew ahead of time every single little thing, well it'd be done faster, and what fun would there be in that? :) I know you're saying that even knowing all of the little things still takes time, but it's understood that your story is going to change a little along the way, too.

* sighs * I'm on year 4 even with a very VERY detailed outline. I'm darned impressed that she's as fast as she is. Of course, I'm super slow but, darnit... After 4 years, because of that outline, not much has changed (except the whole addition of a third novel, into the middle of it, but that was very detailed and planned out within two weeks of reading said OotP, too.) It's possible, just really hard.

I don't know how it's possible with newborns, the way JKR has had to deal with it. I suppose it's good to be the richest woman in Britain ;p
