I have two words for you: КИНДРЕТ. It hit me suddenly over the last ten days or so and in the midnight space between today and yesterday it tripled in volume, but time is running out, so I'm posting as is, no proper tags or title or cover -- but then my lovely audience of three may choose their favourite illustrations to serve as covers, y/y?
(
one of these? )
About the fanmix: all I can say is that I'm able to enjoy it even though I have no idea what fandom the songs are supposed to relate to. But as long as there is Vienna Teng, I'm there. :D And I'll never say no to the possibility of discovering new songs.

This is for Kindred, a russian urban fantasy book series about clannish feuding vampires and their forefather from another world who gets a bit out of control. The first guy is the protagonist on the first book and generally author's baby, Darel Ericson. He's telepathic, and belong to the clan that prises diplomacy and manipulation and is the prime advocate for not killing humans to feed (also they'll smother you with love. Basically, ikel89) Also he meets this human boy whom he obsessively and adorably befriends and eventually makes his best friend perform a super-crazy, super-dangerous ritual when his enemies turn the boy -- to make him human again. It is a case of the biggest accidental (on the author's part) HoYay EVER -- 'Rome' by Phoenix is their ship song. 'Fires' by Band of Skulls is Darel's clan's song ( ... )

Awww, man, that sounds so interesting! Do you think I could illegally download it in English from somewhere, because accidental HoYay+ feuding clans of vampires + hotness = CRISTA WANTS.
And I'll always want song recs, because how else will I discover new soooongs? Kay even sent me this big ass mix of with maaaaany songs a while back, and suddenly my favorite bands list gets updated with Blue October and Poets of the Fall [which I had heard off before, but I never really listened to them properly, before her.]
P.S. - Have I told you how much I love your Disco!Kit icon? Because it's lovely. He looks ready to boogie. Get jiggy with it. All groovy. You get my point. :D

Jon/Kit/Groove, my new OT3.
Translations are the worst (and the best, sometimes). But yeah, I can definitely relate to not being able to share a lot of media effortlessly.

Imagine Jon partying haaaaaard with that awful fur coat on his shoulders. Groovy.
Some translations are brilliant, but a lot of them suuuuuck. What kinda turned me off translations for good was trying to read Good Omens in Romanian, because someone had given me the book for my birthday two years ago. I reached page 50, got annoyed, downloaded off the net and read it in English, because hooooow can you translate Good Omens? There is no good way to do it.
P.S. I kinda posted a new Meta Monday, because I was all excited about starting that one. I hope it's okay? Like, I'm all modly and stuff.

Awful fur coat? Lena doesn't agree with youYeah, I pretty much gave up trying to read translations of English books, cause it's just counter-productive. I did read my earliest favourites, like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings in Russian while I was still learning (and even before that, stuff I loved as a kid like Arthur Conan Doyle and Jane Eyre), but as soon as I was able to read an English text and understand the general drift of every sentence, if not every word, I switched over completely. The foreign languages library was one of my favourite hangouts my last few years in school ( ... )
