but you can't take the girl out of the fanmix

Dec 07, 2012 14:26

I have two words for you: КИНДРЕТ. It hit me suddenly over the last ten days or so and in the midnight space between today and yesterday it tripled in volume, but time is running out, so I'm posting as is, no proper tags or title or cover -- but then my lovely audience of three may choose their favourite illustrations to serve as covers, y/y?

one of these? )

OH.MY.GOD. The best thing ever! I really really love what you have there, and open format especially: strings of words/pics/ships I cannot with these feels<3<3<3<3<3

Designated Dona fanart is beautiful and very much like her (could apply to ther Cadavercial bamf girls too, btw) Macabre, classy poise wtf!

You think it's Hranja between Iovan and Inokanoan? I was thinking it could be Rogneda, but Hranja makes more sense (faux vulnerability and all)

:DDD I'm superchuffed you like it -- I hope you'll add more songs to it!

I have come to the conclusion that it's Hrajna, because those three-character pieces never feature members of one clan, and Rogneda has to look older and way cooler. The soft curls and facial features resembles how that same artist does Miklosh, too.

This song is heart-breaking on its own (or, well, to me) so I was very relieved to have it finally find a pairing to match. I almost added Kristof/Vivian there for the lines 'won't you fall back in love with me', all implications included.

"And my heart don't beat like before" is pretty much Kindred, the definition of.

I am in love with 'Fires' on their own merit, again, and only when I was exclusively in this playlist's mindset (i.e. last night) I realized the connection. I think the opening line is very Dahanavar, too.

The stains on my table are the proof of your steenkin ginius:DDD
My intention in life! "I've never loved you and if I loved you / I wouldn't say that I'm sorry, oh no" Darel is confuzzle!

<---- Nothing personal, I swear, this just had me rofling so much I had to use it =))

Dasha bb, this is EPIC. And oh, that fanart Dona y/y? *omnomnom*

Like, really, I think K covered most of the things that are striking from the get-go (see: Is he teasing you with underage? especially, and other things), song-wise, so what I have to add is that I love your wording (like, OTEveryone and such XDD) and the fact that there's a song for almost every clan (your choice for Lugat seems perfect, I'll have to check it out asap). And Little Lover's So Polite is great for Paula! And there are even humans mentioned, omg!)) You choice for Основатель&Co also makes a looooot of sense, and I'm glad it's there - on of the problems with me making fanmixes, I think, is that I ignore things I do not care about enough or at all, but they need to be there for the comprehensive experience.

Anywho, cheers to all the Russians there (Корень Мандрагоры was made for this clan lol), and what I haven't yet heard I'll be getting my paws onto soon enough ( ... )

Oh, I forgot to mention in my reply to K, but I don't mind in the least, the icon is very fun XD

Dasha bb, this is EPIC.
*preens* You no the key words, bb!

I sort of ended up having the strongest feelings re: Kindred/Humans, because, well, it's simbios, and I can't really symphatize with vampires on their own (not with individuals, just in general) and the implications of the ending that thye're going to have to be more open for a while, jsut because it'd be hard to keep it under wraps as before really gets me all hot and bothered, apparently.

I ignore things I do not care about enough or at all, but they need to be there for the comprehensive experience.
I wasn't intending to, I swear! But once I had a song for Dahanavar as a whole rather than Darel specifically, I felt I need to honour the rest of them, seeing as I like most of them more than Dahanavar on a clear day. So I let myself off the leash and.. yeah.. 20 tracks later.

Корень Мандрагоры was made for this clan lolGreygann was the HARDEST. In retrospect, I actually ( ... )

You no the key words, bb! - I speak tumblr-speak lol I'm glad I do! =)

You forgot to say 20 awesome and ultimately appropriate tracks later... =)) I'll try to think of something to add to this awesomesauce as well, but we'll see how that goes)

Besides, please, Черновики гениальны и обладают волшебным качеством мудрости и вапще - I second! I loved a lot of stuff from there.

And oh, Волна would be interesting, as well. And liking Звери is not a crime XDD

Sure, I'll tell you all about the songs I thought were particularly enticing))

Oh this is so awesome! The songs fit eerily well, especially the shippy Kristof/Flora, Darel/Lorian, Hemran/Paula ones and the "krovnye brat'ya" and "Deep Freeze" songs (and I really like the latter just for itself, too, so thank you for introducing me :), and the Cadavercian song made me giggle. And of course the Greygunn song has to be in Russian! And the song for Feriartos actually I think captures the subtleties of the house better than the 3.17 books I've read so far, in a way more interesting to me, so that's awesome!

And I see the rampant Mikos/Kristof contagion got to you too/wore you down ;P

Eeeee, I'm so thrilled you like it (and the songs themselves, yay, you're welcome!)

Feriartos are portrayed really ambiguously, one of the possibilities being 'vapid fools', so yeah, not so good, but I did think this one captured the idea of their art being not as alive as it was when they were human which seems to be their foremost characteristic as we've discussed; "their own fault for being timeless" and all that.

And I see the rampant Mikos/Kristof contagion got to you too/wore you down ;P
Once I hit book 4, there was really nowhere to hide. You'll see what I mean.

Yes, basically, you zeroed in on the one thing I find interesting about the Feris with that song, and I think the song itself is better at expressing that thing than the books are, but it's still very much the same sentiment, so it worked for me really, really well -- in that way where a fanwork actually enhances my feelings for the original, which is like the best thing.

Once I hit book 4, there was really nowhere to hide. You'll see what I mean.

Heh. I'm now about a fifth into book 4, and I've already read about Miklos's gallant rescue of Kristof, which M himself refers to as "romanticheskij podvig", so, yes, I see what you mean :)

I have no idea what fandom the artwork belongs to, but it's pretty damn gorgeous. Especially the first one, that's my absolute favorite. Who's the guy?

About the fanmix: all I can say is that I'm able to enjoy it even though I have no idea what fandom the songs are supposed to relate to. But as long as there is Vienna Teng, I'm there. :D And I'll never say no to the possibility of discovering new songs.

Ohhhhhh, your words are music to me! XD

This is for Kindred, a russian urban fantasy book series about clannish feuding vampires and their forefather from another world who gets a bit out of control. The first guy is the protagonist on the first book and generally author's baby, Darel Ericson. He's telepathic, and belong to the clan that prises diplomacy and manipulation and is the prime advocate for not killing humans to feed (also they'll smother you with love. Basically, ikel89) Also he meets this human boy whom he obsessively and adorably befriends and eventually makes his best friend perform a super-crazy, super-dangerous ritual when his enemies turn the boy -- to make him human again. It is a case of the biggest accidental (on the author's part) HoYay EVER -- 'Rome' by Phoenix is their ship song. 'Fires' by Band of Skulls is Darel's clan's song ( ... )

Antebellum is one of my favorite songs evah. That, and Cannonball. I love Cannonball. Vienna Teng in general is totally awesome because she has a lovely voice and her lyrics are usually perfection as well.

Awww, man, that sounds so interesting! Do you think I could illegally download it in English from somewhere, because accidental HoYay+ feuding clans of vampires + hotness = CRISTA WANTS.

And I'll always want song recs, because how else will I discover new soooongs? Kay even sent me this big ass mix of with maaaaany songs a while back, and suddenly my favorite bands list gets updated with Blue October and Poets of the Fall [which I had heard off before, but I never really listened to them properly, before her.]

P.S. - Have I told you how much I love your Disco!Kit icon? Because it's lovely. He looks ready to boogie. Get jiggy with it. All groovy. You get my point. :D

Antebellum is justt nhhhhg. In fact, half of these songs are my current jam and I just worked my magic and make them fit the story and pairings! XD Cannonball is Damien Rice's song, though, and I would be hard-pressed to choose the better lyricist between them, wah ( ... )
