Good morning, American!

Well this past week certainly brought things to a grinding halt. In a good way though. I moved into my new apartment (sorry, temporary living situation) in Glebe and ran out of freelance work. The apartment (actually it's a house) situation is great though as it's a bit cheaper than the hostel and still in a really nice area. I was slightly disappointed work ran dry but not at all surprised. My boss had previously warned me that that would probably be happening soon and that she's contact me should more projects arise. Fair enough. In the meantime though I plan on taking full advantage this new found abundance of free time. This will give me a great opportunity to really look for an apartment and find some other kind of temporary employment. Which, incidentally, may be happening sooner than later.

I checked out this fitness center today called the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Center. Oh. My. God. It's like a mecca for swimmers. I have never been in a pool area so modern. Provided I get employment, or maybe just a membership there, I shall definitely have to snap some shots and post them on Facebook. Best part of Ian Thorpe is that their YMCA affiliated so landing work there, in theory, shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

And now on a slightly more entertaining note...

This past weekend Sydney was home to V Fest, as in Virgin Musical Festival. It wasn't a cheap ticket but it was completely worth it. Modest Mouse, Air, Duran Duran, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Chicago's very own *drum roll please* Smashing Pumpkins took to the stage. I had no idea that the Pumpkins were even touring again let alone coming HERE. They delivered a great show and the size of the crowd proved the Pumpkins hadn't lost any of their fan base since I listened to Mellon Collie on a regular basis over ten years ago.

Although I've only been in the house for a few days now I must say, it's been really good. The house reminds me a lot of my buddy Jason's house back at NIU. Same style, lived in by musicians, and overall just a very comfortable place to hang. And I can FINALLY sleep through a whole night without someone stumbling in at 3am and flipping on the light. Plus, it's nice to be cheerfully greeted every morning by a local:

Laura: "Good morning, American!"
Me: "Good morning, Aussie!"

I'm going to have to touch base with a real estate agent in the area and see what, if anything, I can't find in this area for housing. It's certainly not the most central location but I could easily see myself staying here for at least a few months. Worst case scenario, I'm still an unemployed bum in three weeks with no place to live. In which case it's out of Sydney and off to Melbourne!

Later, ya'll.
