No worries?

Well this past week sure has been one hell of an interesting one.  I'm doing my best to work myself into some kind of a rut here but housing proves to be a rather considerable challenge and disappointment.  I've looked at about four places this past week and each one has had it's own unique set of ...um...circumstances.

The first  involved me living in Chinatown and sharing a (as in ONE) bedroom with 3 other guys-none of whom I think spoke English.  The next, although slightly more geographically desirable involved pretty much the same set up but instead of a cute Asian girl renting the place out to me, it would have been a local, (roughly my age) who seemed all too comfortable in telling me that he had just been released from jail about 2 weeks ago after serving an eight month stint for bank fraud.  Right buddy, I really want you handling my money.  See ya.  The next place proved far too on the outskirts of the city and a ridiculously anal landlord.  No showering before 730am and after 930pm because it would disturb his sleep.  Not joking.  Oh, and the real selling point came in when I was told my father and uncle could only visit provided they paid, in addition to my insanely priced $250 a week rent, a $120 per week.   Don't call me, I'll call you.  The last shining gem of real estate came though when I was given a tour of a house, just a ways south of my hostel.  Great location, nice roommates, and an acceptable price.  Now, I realize I'm a traveler, and as such you just have to grin and bear certain things.  Maggots in the kitchen is not one of them.  Yes, that's right, maggots.  Baby flies literally scattered and squirming across the ceiling.  When I asked the landlord about it she said those were the current tenants fault-that they'd been leaving food out.  Yeah, right, and how many dead bodies are buried under the floor boards?  Seriously, how the fook do you gets maggots from a few rotten apples??

Still, I am here and determined to make the most of it.  I have to tell myself that I have in fact been here only a week and housing in Sydney is just rather tough venture.  I have however met a number of people who have landed that clean, beachside, affordable flat within days of getting here.  In the meantime I'm content with chilling in the hostel.  It may be one of the more expensive ones I've been in but it's very clean, the people friendly, and makes for one incrediblely simple commute.

Photos to follow soon just as soon as I figure how the hell to post them on LJ.
