This Friday is Show Day, which is a holiday for people in my area, because our real provincial anniversary, December 16th, is deemed too close to Christmas to give people another day off.

Historically, Show Day has either been sweltering hot or pouring with rain, and nothing in between, so that the current forecast is in a kind of quantum state between the two. The only way to force a resolution, of course, is to make concrete plans depending on one eventuality, whereupon the weather will obligingly do the opposite.

Now I have a new theory. If enough people decide, say, that they want to do Outside-In-The-Sun things on Friday, then all we have to do is set up a larger group of people with the information that everybody is counting on it being sunny, so it will rain. This second tier will allow themselves to pessimistically make plans for the wettest Friday in recorded history (records go back to 1956, when the Hall of Records was mysteriously washed away), thereby swinging the balance back and ensuring perfectly clement weather.

Of course, the weather may see through such a plan quite easily. I am kidding myself that that is the reason why I have, as yet, made no plans for the weekend.
