It is often difficult for me to diffentiate between of the following two self-indulgences or egoisms I encounter more often. One being when an individual throws themselves wholly into something to the point where they consider it a point of merit how much of their time they invest into that activity, or the individual who prefers to act as if he is had put forth little effort and possesses little knowledge on a subject while in truth they believe they possess some secret insight that is far more enlightened than any previous individual's thought.

I probably encounter the latter more often since it is one I often indulge in myself, as it is subtly laced through this journal entry. How desperately we want others to think we're smart and "cool".
