Many times since my last update I have thought of updating but for some reason just never did. I also contemplated stopping all together however I realized when I am so bored at work, instead of resorting to spinning in my office chair, I could update this and make it seem like I was typing something really important.
This past weekend I had a great performance at the Greenberg's Country Club (Indian Hills) in Silver Spring. Harold and Sylvia sure do have a goldmine there...its gorgeous. I played at an 85th birthday party for the mother of someone who met me at the graduation party I played for in May. At $60+ an hour, I figured giving up my weekend was worth it. I spent Saturday practicing and gathering together music and Sunday was spent at the country club. The event ran shorter than expected and was actually very well put together and fun to be at. Granmda did not look 85 at all ... more like 70. She lives in Leisure World which I have actually been to once before to visit Kathleen's Grandmother for Easter two years ago.
Right now, I am at work waiting for Microsoft Antispyware to stop running. I hate pretty much all Microsoft products except for Office but unfortunately it is the only spyware program that I know have that you can have run automatically at a set date and time that you don't have to pay for. Usually I would just download a pay version of a better product but since this is for work, I can't really do that. My supervisor is out this week so I was left a laundry list of things to do...this of course being one of them.
In home news, my grandfather was diagnosed with lymphoma last week. He is 89 years old and has passed of all the tests to go ahead with treatment. He starts next week; I am praying all goes well. It is really just another flame under my ass to make sure this year's AU/GW Relay for Life is an amazing one. We have an amazing committee and had a great conference call yesterday. I have to do some preliminary website work tonight as a list of open position arrived in my box this morning. If you think you'd like to help out, let me know. I will need some volunteers for my logistics committee to make sure the event goes smoothly.
Also going really well so far is Derby Days. It has been rocky since it started but I think everything has smoothed out. Fund raising continues to go well; hopefully parent letters will be approved/rejected by individual brothers by the end of next week and in the mail before school starts. Broomball is scheduled and now I'm just trying to figure out if "the kids" can afford it and the t-shirt sketches rock; I'm really hoping they get turned into something spectacular. Mark S. has been a tremendous help with all of my "projects" and I can't wait to talk with him next week when he is back from Horizons.
I got to have a reunion with my Horizons facilitator and fellow Team Traverse member Kevin out in Ohio for the Sigma Chi 150th Celebration. It was an amazing time; quite overwhelming to be around so many sigs from so many places and vastly spanning in age range. We announced our 40 million dollar capitol campaign of which 20 some-odd million had already been raised, including some big pledges that weekend. We presented CMN and our new philanthropy - the Huntsman Cancer Institute - with a check for around $520,000 each (one was for $520,000 and the other $560,000 but I don't remember which one went to where).
Other than that I am excited for the rest of this week but a little scared that summer is almost over. I have barely accomplished any of my personal goals for this summer (like relearning French and German) but have been glad to be planning some kick ass events this year for good causes. It appears my spyware check is complete - time to get back to work.
