Others have suggested I've painted an unfair picture of Gibbs in this section and, in some ways, I agree. But I want readers to remember that DiNozzo, at this younger age, is not an angel and is capable of some fairly immature and frustrating actions. I mean, look at how his character is portrayed as an adult on the show...chances are he could be a little hellion as a child at times.

Plus, I think the Gibbs in this part of the fic is realizing that DiNozzo is developing some 'habits' which need to be curtailed quickly. Oh, yeah. And, frankly, Gibbs is just plain horny at this point. He wants to make sure his plans for sex are not derailed. So, we have frustration (both emotional and physical), we have opportunity, we have interruptions...and we have the potential for some type of discipline. Gibbs is at his wits end by the time he gives DiNozzo a swat (or two). Do I think it was right for him to do that? At this point in the story, yes. I think he knows Tony better than anyone and knows exactly how to make the greatest impression on the boy. Physical discipline is the *last* thing Tony would ever expect from his Gunny...and that's why it was so effective in driving the story where I thought it needed to be.

And, yes, Gibbs is trying to conform into the role established by his job and by the paramaters he faces in RL. Marriage is the way to go to give the illusion of fitting into that proper mold. Is that right? Hell, no. BUT this Gibbs *is* beginning to battle his own growing feelings for Tony. They are subtle (God, I hope they are!) but they are there. I believe Gibbs makes all kinds of bad choices in his life, as we all do...we just have the pleasure of entertaining ourselves by playing with his character.

Again, I really appreciate your feedback. It makes me think (that's a good thing, right?) and helps me re-evaluate ideas as I get ready to tweak the next parts. Thank you...

Matt
