Really, there are a hell of a lot of misconceptions about bdsm, and I wince when people think they can use bdsm and NCS interchangeably. Ever heard the phrase "safe, sane and consensual", folks?
I sometimes wish I was more articulate (Ok, I usually wish I was more articulate!) because I have points of my own to make, but I struggle to find the words. People who don't understand bdsm have some very cliched (and in some cases, downright offensive or hurtful) notions about subs, doms and the psychology involved.

Though it's deliberate that none of the characters ever uses any kind of technical term in Breaking the Game, even seemingly uncontroversial ones like "scene" or "safeword". I want the action to just come across as Stuff People Do, and I think the use of jargon, which inevitably brings with it a whole bundle of preconceptions which differs from person to person, mitigates against that.
