The local used book store has recently started buying stuff for cash: books printed between 2012 and 2014, graphic novels, manga, DVDs, CDs, books on CD, classics and a few other odds and ends. My dad offered to take me there after work, and so I gathered up a few of mine, including the hardback edition of "A Dance of Dragons" (I'd gotten the paperback and the hardback just takes up a bloody lot of space on the shelf) and the paper back of Stieg Larsson's "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" as well as one or two graphic novels and a few others (actually a smaller pile than I initially planned, more about that later).
Wasn't sure how this would go, but to my amazement, this proved more lucrative than I expected: I had thought I'd get maybe ten dollars. Instead, I got twenty dollars for a stack of six books. Next time we go, I might bring a stack of manga that I'd decided to let go of... and maybe even buy up some classics on the cheap at some of the library book sales (I admit, I've learned to be a bit of a wheeler-dealer, courtesy of my dad
Worked today: oddly busy day, when Tuesdays are usually quiet. One of the corporate chiefs came through my lane and got talking to my boss about the quality of the plastic bags we use. And somehow, I got drawn into the conversation: Corporate Guy asked me about my observations on the bags, and I admit, I got a bit chatty about them, since the quality (or, sadly, the lack thereof, since said bags have been very flimsy of late) has given me quite some cause for concern. It may not sound like much, but the fact that he asked me, that means a lot to this lowly bagger/CSR.
Started reading Janet Fitch's "White Oleander", which is quite outside my usual fare, I'd be the first to admit. Not sure what possessed me to pick it up at the library book sale, but I'm glad I did: the style is utterly exquisite and I'm enjoying it way more than I thought I would. The character of Ingrid, however absent she might be from the stage, and the artistic, almost mini-landscape painting descriptions really make this stand out from the proverbial pack.
And tonight, I will be taking a poke at the crabbed notes for the Twhinelite crossover: I really need to get more done with that, after I'd said I'd get the next chapter out as soon as is reasonably possible.
