Another Writing Project, this time no mystery

A quiet spring day: no hours scheduled or otherwise, no errands, just a day I can call my own, so I spent it chilling. Or more specifically, going over a *very* long lists of very unusual writing prompts for an interesting writing challenge: DW's "unconventionalcourtship", featuring romance fics inspired by Harlequin or Mills&Boon type romance novel summaries/synopses. I ended up going with a random draw, going by the number on the list of prompts until I found a summary that clicked for me. Now I'm poking at a Yami no Matsuei fic featuring a very AU Wakaba Kannuki and Hajime Terazuma. And some cupcake baking.

Then it dawned on me that it's been a while since I've actually read a Harlequin romance, so I went digging among the stacks of Silhouette Nocturnes that are sitting on top of the book case in the study and pulled out the ones I haven't read. Mind you, they're a bit of a penance to read, as the writing is so *silly*; though I have to admit, some Silhouette Nocturnes have better fantasy world-building than some mainstream fantasy (okay, that's an oxymoron: mainstream fantasy?? I guess I mean "mainstream = published for Big Name Fantasy Publisher like Roc or DelRay instead of Harlequin Romance"). I used to buy these once a month, but I gave it up for financial reasons, still, I got four stacks of the things, most of which I've already read, I'm just unsure what to do with them. Some I might keep because good world-building, others... I might pass them on, but there's that matter of wonky writing. Some I've actually tossed in the recycling because *terrible writing*.

Lovely weather today: our attic fans came on, so I opened the windows upstairs to cool things down. And in the process, I startled the first woodchuck of the season lumbering about the lawn. Poor thing got so spooked by me pulling up the sash on one window, that poor Woody ran across the lawn, across the sidewalk, and across the street to the woods. Skeered me: our street gets really busy with traffic. Now we're having a soft little April shower that's pitter pattering on the roof and windows.

Also watched the movie "The Turning Point", dealing with two generations of ballerinas, also a young Mikhail Baryshnikov as their primo danseur who nearly breaks a poor young dancer's heart. Wonderful dancing, with a lot of clips from classic ballets.
