I had planned to go out today and make my at-most-twice-a-month trip to the Burlington Barnes & Noble, but considering the extreme wind chills today and the fact that I was up till the wee hours last night typing one fanfiction, writing another and watching anime (not necessarily in that order or all at once, either), I decided to stay home today.

Muraki as a mob boss? Now thats gangsta. But seriously, the ties between Oriya and the Yakuza could be very plausble. (If I'm not mistaken, the Yakuza control most of the dirty business around Japan... does Oriya pay them protection money? :gasps: Could he be a mafia prince?! I love that aspect on fanfiction, the idea that you can put ideas into a character that no one usually thinks of. (Maybe thats why my fan fiction is so crappy.)

Mmm, I don't doubt that some local Yakuza honcho holds court at Koukakurou; I've been toying with a short story about Oriya's parents, and I'd been speculating that his mother was either a servant who caught the elder Mibu's fancy or possibly a Yakuza princess. I recently read an interesting book on geisha, "Women of the Pleasure Quarters", which got a little bit into the connection between the Yakuza and some of the remaining geisha houses and similar establishments (Note to self: someday post about an extremely funny bit in said book involving one of the few male geisha in Kyoto)
