i snorted to much dexedrin last night
and couldn't sleep and COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT MY PAPER (which i will post here because i really do think that it's quasi brilliant). As my paper was on my socialization growing up in the early 90's, i decided to try to remember everything i could from my life between the ages of 6-10 that i hadn't remembered for YEARS. i almost believe that no one ever forgets anything. so because i couldn't sleep, but was trying to for hours--i started compiling lists--like these.
WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP
1. a baseball card designer
2. a director and/or producer, like steven spielberg
3. the person who created coca cola commercials, in atlanta
4. a novel/horror writer
5. and a variety of less tangible professions, that i guess seemed plausible at the time: a mermaid, a surfer, jesus, native american (pretty fucked up, huh?), an actress, gem (from the allgirl rock band cartoon), she-rah, and barbie.
A few THINGS I WOULD DO TO OCCUPY MY TIME
1. ride my skateboard in circles around my driveway and sing songs to myself
2. shoot hoops in my driveway and create elaborate stories about redheaded super hero women and their lifestyle, adventures,thoughts, and philosophies. i would create new chapters everday and recite them aloud while i was playing basketball alone in my driveway. the series of character and plot and developement grew intense and elaborate as i did this regularly for about a month.
3. play imagination games-- a) i would pretend that my bunkbed was the gates of hell, and i lived there. b) i would make my bedroom really dark and lay on the floor with rapped in our rattiest brown blanket and pretend that i was homeless, hungry, and freezing in the streets.
oh and i remembered the name of everyone in my french immersion class (i was with that same group of maybe 40 students for most of my classes for ten years until i dropped out.) if a student wasn't in the progam for at least 2/3 years they don't count. do you want their names? well even if you don't:
THE BOYS: matt karp, matt erickson, matt haughom, same glaser, chris ware, andy fox, leif fuller, spencer diehl, manuel renard, charles-jean, simon newton, travis edson, josh walker, eli kreigh, devon biggerstaff, nick yarbinac, alex campbell.
THE GIRLS: liz rice, sarah hurwit, michelle hogan, ashley joyce, lili csonka, crystal anderson, shelby whitmore, michelle potter, lauren tyree, Caitlyn Murphey, emma/ily chereck, laura delancey, emily gilkey, jackie lowry, marisa rodney, anne koreisha, emily harris-deutch, jane wilson-moses, ila kreigh, rochelle jacques (originally crenshaw), maryjane ward, holly fisher, rachel blum.
out of this list michelle hogan is the only one i never had any form of friendship with. her father judge hogan was/is one of the most famous and infuential conservatives in town
