As a substitute teacher I have been privy to many strange phenomenon that are inherent in today's youth. I had a pregnant lesbian (just ask her!) in class the other day who got pregnant by having sex with a gang leader (keep in mind this is a small town and the bulk of the gang can be seen hanging outside someone's house on any given day)for an initiation and her moral dilemma is weather or not to give the baby her or her girlfriend's last name.
I've seen kids act more adult than most adults until they are afraid to talk to their peers because they may not possibly like them. I've heard swearing at and with me, a 12 year old ADHD kid ask about the status of my virginity and been threatened lawsuits again for doing what comes natural to me, that is lying to kids for my own amusement. But today topped even the weirdest shit I've seen and heard about. In a high school I sub at it there are, like in most high schools in my experience, about a fifth of the senior class who are stupid and have something to do with sports (jocks if you will). It is a well known fact that the only thing that kids think is greater than their own personal life is that of their teacher's or authority figures (subs do too count!). At lunch duty today the table full of Jocks(not the entertaining movie with Christopher Lee) start asking me what beer I like, if I had a girlfriend, where I went to college and a lot of other questions they would forget the answers to in five seconds. I started avoiding their questions as skillfully as I could and started to walk away when I noticed that the entire table had finished eating and was following me around the cafeteria chanting my name in a manner that would have reminded me of steps had they not all been white. I left the cafeteria and they still followed me, yelling now until th hall monitor turned us all back to the cafeteria and me feeling like a pied piper of stupid. They all left when another teacher told them to take off and they had to get to class but somehow I became the best liked sub in school by the loudest student in classes. I may not want it but I may have become a milestone in a life that will never get better after high school.
