Well, I just got back from Silver Bay yesterday afternoon, and wouldn't you know it, I'll probably be going back up there for the rest of the summer.
For those of you who don't know where it is, Silver Bay is on Lake George in upstate New York, about an hour or two from Albany; it takes us 7, 8 hours to drive there. I had a great time up there, always have, tons of great memories, like my aunt almost making the waterfront director cry, and then the night of the blackout up there, and so much more. While I was up there, I wanted to make some silver jewelry, 1) because it's fun, 2) because I lost the ring I made last year, which I have remade this year, and 3) cause it's fun. So anyway, it turned out that they got the wrong gas tank for the torches, so they didn't have the right equipment for it, and then when they thought they could use a wrench instead, there was a minor gas leak while I was there, but then the next day they got the right tanks and equipment for it, so thursday and friday I was there constantly. While making some things, I got to talking with the two emps (nickname for employees up at Silver Bay) and chatted with them for a few hours. Turns out they're both going to a big art school that's part of Temple University, with a major in metalworking as an art, something I never even considered for a major; I'm thinking about trying that out sometime. So anyway, we chatted for a while, and on friday when I was working on something else, they were telling me that I should work there this summer. I had considered doing that next summer, since I've never stayed up there for more than a week, but the more they were saying about this summer, the more it seemed like a good idea. There's an opening in the copper enameling area of the craft shop, so I'm going to try to get into that. The one thing that's holding me back as a good reason not to is that I'll be away from home all summer, before leaving for college. I'll be missing out on so much here, but it'll be such a great experience up there. I can keep in touch with a computer up there; apparently there's a computer room in one of the main buildings. I'll probably be back a week or so before I leave for college, so I'll be able to say bye from home. Until next time, namaarie.
