[x]/[2]-3=[x]/[5]

Then I go and do this:

[x]/[5]-[x]/[2]-3=[x]/[5]-[x]/[5]

So I end up with this:
[x]/[2]-[x]/[5]-3

I have no idea what I am doing with this problem. And, everything I keep looking at it just "magically" becomes 10.

I have been doing all right in my algebra course but now I have stumbled upon permutations. Sorry to bother you again but I have 2 more problems that I am stuck on. Thanks in advance.

1) Show that for any subgroup H of Sn either every element of H is an even permutation or else 1/2 the elements of H are even permuations.

Okay, this was a question on my math exam today that completely baffled me.
Find three solutions to this equation and graph it:

8 - 2x = 0

Okay, how do you find three solutions to that? I'd understand if there were two variables, but there's only x.
