I have to write a paper. That's about all the instruction I have. It has to be roughly 1/2 math, and 1/2 history.
My professor suggested I pick a mathematician and start with that.
But, that leaves a lot of options.
She suggested, specifically:
- David Hilbert (his 23 famous problems, the historical account of them and his work, and the current state of each of them ... or some of them)
- Nicolas Bourbaki (well, the group who used that pseudonym)... and the impact Bourbaki had on modern mathematics
- Georg Cantor ... and how he developed set theory, the problems he had to start, gains he made, etc.
So, I was just wondering if anybody would like to help persuade me to explore one of the above topics, or if you had any other specific topic that you find very compelling and intriguing. :)
Any input is appreciated. :)
