For everybody I forget to check in on, call me. If you dont feel like calling me, well, then perhaps you can read this absolutely fascinating journal entry about this past week, the choir trip to New York.. or not. Either way, I'm posting it for my own reflection, really. And because I love you; you know who you are. :p
My senior exhibition went fine; though it was a little hectic, considering my Aunt went to the emergency room the night before.. we won't go into that. She's fine; don't ask. I sweated like a pig when I went up there, and stumbled on my words a bit as well, but they liked my project, were surprised that I actually did the pictures I did for Tirhas' website (see the cafepress.com website at
http://www.cafepress.com/dersoproject, and her official website at
http://cleanwaterforlife.atspace.com -- making the website was my senior project), and Ihlbrock was the nicest I've ever seen him.
The very next day the choir group (Adv. Choir ensemble and women's ensemble) left for the festival of gold in New York city. We stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan on 54th street, and my room-mates were AWESOME. I already knew(but didn't really KNOW) Allison and Amanda, and I hadn't met Nicole before, and so through the entire trip I hung out with them and they are so nice and so sweet! And hilarious. Before this trip, I thought everyone in choir hated me.. they made the NY trip wonderful for me.
Plus, I got to see my sister Maureen, since she's going to Columbia as a grad student. We saw Sweeney Todd (which was fabulous-- meat pies and all; I'll go into it later), we went to The Strand bookstore (
http://www.strandbooks.com), which houses three stories and 18 miles of books, so I stocked up on a crazy amount of books. (My current obsession is Virginia Woolf, and also various romantic poetry collections.. tennyson, dickinson, wordsworth, and so on.) We were late getting back from the Strand and getting coffee from this cafe with dancing cupcakes.. and so the choir group was already at Don Giovanni, since they went early. I had to get dressed and take the subway by myself in high heels and everything, all the way down to 66th where the NY Opera House is. I made it with five minutes to spare, THEN someone in the audience had a stroke or some such emergency, so we had to wait thirty minutes for the ambulance to arrive and move her. THEN Don Giovanni turned out to be THREE HOURS LONG (it was good.. very funny, and interesting since I already knew the plot) and I was sitting next to Mr. Rubin (the choir director), who was snoring (Leo told me he--mr. Rubin-- had been up until about six am, due to some girl's panic attack at 2am.. drama!! >_<).. three hours was way too long for me. And everyone else. Some of the students just sat in the lobby for the second act, which is a shame, since it was only an hour long and it was the best part.
Oh, as for the choir festival? The acoustics in the church we performed in were HORRIBLE-- you couldn't hear consonants at all, and we probably were barely heard by the judicators since there were only twelve to fifteen of us that came. Women's Esemble got last, and the advanced Choir emsemble (that I'm in) got second to last. Needless to say, we were small fish in a big pond of other ginormous fish. I'm told last year in seattle the choir ensemble got first, but there were only four other choirs.
Whatever.
I had a good time, I bought Mr. Kelso a mug from The Strand since he reccomended it to me, and I loved seeing my sister. I loved Sweeney Todd, too.

Me, surrounded by 18 miles of books
The dancing cupcakes in the cafe I told you about.. Man, I'll bet there was at least 18 pounds of cupcake frosting there
The next post will be about Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, since Mr. Todd deserves his own post. :P
