I Need You In My Life

Chapter 4
Hyukjae stirred in his sleep and pulled the sheets up to his nose. The room felt cold - too cold and he frowned as he opened his eyes. It was still slightly dark in the room even though the clock was nearly seven. Hyukjae rubbed his eyes with his hand and noticed the door to the balcony stood ajar. He was sure he hadn’t forgotten to close it the day before so he figured Donghae must be out there. “He still hasn’t left?”

Hyukjae wrapped the blanket around his shoulders and slowly made it to the opened doorway. Donghae was leaning onto the railing with his back facing the redhead. Hyukjae smiled because the other also seemed to have taken the liking for the beautiful view from there. You could practically see the entire city, and it looked even prettier when the red-ish sun was rising behind the large buildings. Hyukjae carefully took a step out on the balcony and a chill went through his blanket and body. It sure was getting closer to winter soon.

Donghae turned around as he felt the presence of another person there and faced Hyukjae behind him with a tired pouting face and cute bed hair. Something pulled in the corner of his lips as a half smile and he turned back to keep on watching the sunrise. Since Donghae hadn’t said anything, Hyukjae thought it was okay for him to join in. He took another step and leaned his elbows against the cold railing. The city was still calm and only a few cars were seen on the roads.

Hyukjae glanced at Donghae from the corner of his eyes. The blonde was still fixated by the now rising sun and the pink clouds covering the sky.

“Donghae-sshi…” Hyukjae began. He hadn’t really planned on saying anything, but he felt like he had to interact with the other in some way. They couldn’t just exist in the same house without talking; he knew he couldn’t accept that.

“Just call me Donghae.” The other answered firmly and followed a car beneath them with his eyes.

“Uhm…Donghae.” Hyukjae felt his cheeks warm up a little.

“Yes Eunhyuk?” Donghae turned his head to his left where the older male was standing and their eyes met. Hyukjae blushed and shivered slightly. He didn’t know if it was because of the cold or the nervousness that grew inside of him.

Donghae gave him a small smile before turning around to the door.

“Let’s go back in, because it’s really cold out here. You’re shivering like crazy, you know.” Hyukjae just nodded and followed into the living room and closed the balcony door behind.

Donghae took a glance of the red haired male who took a seat on the couch. He really didn’t like to look at Eunhyuk, because every time he did something in his chest hurt. Like someone was pinching him over and over again. 'I'm not...? No. Could it be that reminds me of Kibum?' He glanced over for a second time and the redhead who was now playing with Choco. 'His smile looks like the one Kibum had when he had found a stray puppy and played with it. And the way he would tug at his shirt when becoming nervous is kind of the same. Damn it, I'm thinking about him again!' Donghae sighed and caught Hyukjae’s attention.

"You’re going to school today?" He asked and Hyukjae nodded in response.

"Well, come on then. I’ll leave soon." Hyukjae's heart skipped a beat as he heard Donghae's words.

"You want to go together?" He smiled brightly causing him to show his gums and Donghae looked away for an unknown reason.

"Not if you take so long." Hyukjae let go of Choco and jumped up to his feet and hurried to the bathroom.

"I’ll be done in a moment! Just wait a little." Donghae went to pick up the whining dog in his embrace and smiled at it.

"Hey, don't be sad like that. Eunhyuk will come back later." Choco waved her tail and barfed happily and Donghae laughed lightly, oblivious to the observing Hyukjae. The redhead had only seen that smile on Donghae's lips a long time ago - the moment he realized he was in love with the latter.

Donghae ruffled the fur of his dog after putting it down in the box. “I’m really sorry Bada, but I can’t keep you.”He dried away the tears in his eyes and put a note into the box and patted his dog for one last time.  “Be a good girl, okay?” he smiled at Bada before he stood up and walked away.

Hyukjae had been standing not so far away from the boy and had been observing the whole scene. He had always thought Donghae looked like a cool guy and admired him, but when he saw him like this his heart couldn’t help but flutter a bit. He walked up to the box and saw a sad puppy trying to jump out and follow her owner who now had disappeared.

“Hi there” Hyukjae said softly and hold the wining dog in his embrace and also picked up the left note.

‘Please look after her. She won’t be any burden. P.S. She’s scared of the rain.’

Hyukjae stood up and held the dog closer to his chest. “Don’t worry. Everything will be alright.”

Hyukjae smiled at the memory. He really wanted to tell Donghae that Choco was the exact same dog he had been forced to abandon - but in a grown up version. He had probably missed her.

He cleared his throat to gain the other's attention and the smile disappeared in a second as he awkwardly put Choco back to the floor. Hyukjae smiled to himself.

"I’ll just give her some food, and then we can leave." Donghae nodded.

This was the second time Hyukjae had gone to school together with Donghae since he had started. He was really happy that the other had taken the initiative to ask him. It felt as it was Donghae's way to start opening up to him. Hyukjae smiled widely for himself and probably looked dumb to the people around him, but he just felt so happy to have some interaction between them.

“Come on now guys! Don’t hesitate, just attack! Yah Lee Sungmin-sshi, nothing will happen if you just stand still and look at the ball! Great feint Park Jungmin-sshi! Okay, three minutes break.”

Hyukjae sat down on the floor to catch his breath and Sungmin collapsed next to him on his back, panting heavenly.

“I’m so tired! I never want to play basketball ever again!” he exclaimed and clutched his chest.

“Yet you did nothing” Hyukjae chuckled and dried of his sweat from his forehead.

“I can’t help it. I panic every time the ball comes near me; it almost gives me a heart attack.” Hyukjae laughed and hit Sungmin’s arm playfully. But his mood changed 180 degrees as he saw fiery blonde hair walk into the gym together with another well-known face.

“Oh, Kyuhyun-ah! You’re here.” One of their classmates called out and Sungmin’s eyes flew open and he sat up, still frozen. Some students from their class walked over to the two boys who just had entered and greeted them.

“Yah, Hyuk” Sungmin whispered. “Is it him?” The black haired boy did not dare to turn around to look for himself, so he kept sitting with his back facing the group. Hyukjae understood who that certain him Sungmin had meant.

“Mmh, yeah it is”

For a second Donghae turned to the two boys and met Hyukjae’s eyes. His look was empty and he turned away as someone in the group had called his name. He seemed to be really popular already.

“Okay everyone, let’s give it your all the last fifteen minutes that are left.” The P.E. teacher stood in the center and tried to do some pep-talk. No one really listened to him since it wasn’t a real game and they all just wanted to go home.

“Where’s the basketball? Oh Donghae-sshi, would you please…?”

Donghae looked down and saw the ball lying by his feet. “Hey, redhead!”
Hyukjae didn’t have time to react before he had a basketball hit the back of his head and fell to the floor, with a flood of pain in his right wrist.

“What the hell!!” Hyukjae stood up; supporting himself with his left hand and gave the guilty one a deadly glare. Donghae just turned his attention to Kyuhyun who sat next to him, snickering.

“Yah, yah, yah! No badmouthing in here. And Lee Donghae, you don’t throw things when you haven’t got the persons attention.”

“But I did call out for him. He’s just slow” Donghae tried to sound innocent and Kyuhyun forced back his laughter.

The teacher gave them both a stern look and picked up the ball. “You two” he pointed at Hyukjae and Donghae, “stay here after the lesson’s end and clean up.”

Hyukjae groaned and shot one last glare at Donghae who looked like he disapproved the punishment as much as he did. ‘What the hell is wrong with him? One moment he seems nice, the next he’s behaving like a jerk. Maybe he really does hate me…Screw you.’ He turned around to join back in the team.

“Are you okay Hyukkie?” Sungmin laid a hand on his shoulder and Hyukjae nodded.

“Okay, here we go!” the whistle blew and their last round started.

~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨

Hyukjae leaned against the wall and took deep breaths.

“Waah, basketball is so much fun!” Sungmin beamed “We should totally do this more often.” He smiled and took a sip of water from the bottle and handed it over to Hyukjae.

“And twenty minutes ago you said you never wanted to play basket again.” The red haired boy smiled teasingly and his best friend blushed.

Earlier during the game when Sungmin was running from the ball, a deep voice had called out from the side of the pitch.

“Hey, come on now shorty!” This had caught his attention and he searched the voice back to Kyuhyun who sat on the bench and watching the game intensively. Sungmin’s cheeks flushed and his legs suddenly started running across the field, caught up the basketball on his way and one, two, three, thud.

The ball went through the basket goal and the whole team was stunned. ‘How the heck did Lee Sungmin manage that? And in only ten seconds.’  The curly-haired boy on the bench smirked victoriously and leaned back with a PSP in his hands.

“Guess he gave you the power to do it” Hyukjae smirked and his friend punched his arm lightly.

“Um Hyukkie, can I leave ahead of you? I’m kind of in a hurry.” Sungmin looked apologetically at him and picked up his bag from the floor and threw it over his shoulder.

“Yeah fine”

“Thanks. See you tomorrow Hyukkie” Sungmin gave him one last shining smile and jumped happily out of the gym.

Hyukjae stretched his arms high above his head. He felt a little weird in his right wrist, but he soon forgot about it as their P.E. teacher spoke up.

“Now you two put all those basketballs into the net and bring them over to the storage room.” Kyuhyun had left and Donghae had slowly risen from his seat and approached Hyukjae and the teacher.  “You can just put the keys on my desk when you have finished.” The teacher handed Hyukjae a bunch of keys and exited, leaving the two of them alone.

Hyukjae crouched down and started collecting the orange balls lying in the corners of the gym. Donghae watched him for a moment before he headed for the exit.

“Donghae, where are you going?” The red haired boy stood up as he saw the other’s actions.

“I’m out of here”

“No you’re not! Hyukjae run towards the younger boy and grabbed his shirt. “We were told that both of us were supposed to clean up, not me alone.” Hyukjae pouted at the blonde.

“Does it look like I care?” He sighed as he saw the older boy pout and gave up. There were only a few balls left to pick up so he picked them up so he could get out of there as soon as possible.

Hyukjae pushed the key into the lock and un-locked the door. They lifted in the net with the balls and put it in the corner next to the net with footballs.

Click!

“Aah, at last!” the older boy groaned. Donghae snorted and walked towards the door, which to his surprise closed in front of his nose. He grabbed the door knob but it didn’t budge.

“Hey Eunhyuk, hand me the keys.” Donghae held out his hand towards Hyukjae who stared blankly at him.

“Wh-what?”

“The keys.”

Hyukjae mumbled something inaudible and Donghae started to get irritated. “What? Speak up, and hand me the keys!”

“I left them in the lock on the outside…”

There was a long silence. Donghae sighed and leaned against a shelf with his phone in his hand. Hyukjae walked to the door and dragged at the door knob, like it would open if he dragged long enough.

“Hello! Is anyone there? We’re stuck in here, hello?” He banged the door three times and kept on calling.

“Just shut up. It’s annoying.”

This started to make Hyukjae angry. “At least I’m trying to do something to get us out”
The blonde gave him a glare that sent shivers down his spine.

“What the hell do you think I’m doing, playing Quandra pop? I was about to call someone.”

“Then why don’t you?”

“There’s no signal in here.” Donghae messed his hair in frustration and pocketed his cell phone.

“Should we just keep on calling until somebody can hear us?

“Sure, go ahead” the blonde scoffed as he sat down on a mattress and started to massage the bridge of his nose. “Just for your information, everyone has already left and you were the last class in the gym for today.”

The older boy slid heavily down to the floor. “You mean we have to wait until tomorrow before someone can find us?”

“Exactly Einstein!”

Hyukjae pouted at Donghae’s nasty comment and circled his arms around his lean legs. “Damn it” he hissed, and the other turned his attention to the redhead to find out why he suddenly cursed. He sat with eyes tightly closed, head leaned back against the wall and he held a loose grip around his right hand.

“You okay?” Donghae mumbled, loud enough for the older to hear.

“I think I hurt my wrist pretty bad earlier.” Hyukjae held his arm tight to his chest as the blonde stood up and walked over to him.

“Let me see” Hyukjae opened his eyes and carefully stretched out his arm to let the younger boy examine his wrist, who grabbed it a little too harsh.

“FUCK DONGHAE, THAT FREAKING HURTS!” the blonde was taken aback at the way he was shouted at and the red haired boy glared at him, eyes glittering with tears.

“I’m sorry…” Donghae whispered and his touch became a lot gentler than before as he started to massage the thin and fragile wrist. Hyukjae held a hard grip onto his pants with his well hand so he wouldn’t focus too much on the pain.

“I think it’s sprained. You should be more careful.” Donghae spoke without his usually un-caring voice.

“Well, who was the person who threw a ball at me and made me fall? If you hadn’t done that then I would have been in a perfectly fine condition right now.” He snorted and snapped his hand back, but Donghae already had a firm grip on his elbow, so he couldn’t move his arm. The younger boy sent him a soft glare, telling him to shut up and don’t struggle.

“I really did think you would’ve been able to catch the ball.” Donghae said softly, and Hyukjae just scoffed. He didn’t want to argue about it anymore and just accepted Donghae’s apology, much to his dislike.

He observed Donghae as the male was concentrating on his wrist. His dark eyes looked so caring, like how a mother watches her child and Hyukjae couldn’t help but think he looked perfect. Beautiful double-lidded eyes, sparkling hair, thin lips and when he smiles - then the angels would fall for him.

Donghae’s fingers on his wrist sent him electrifying pain through the whole arm but yet it was very comforting. The blonde felt the intense stare from the other and let his eyes travel up to meet the redhead’s.
For minutes no one of them dared to speak, and they just continued staring into each other’s eyes. Hyukjae had forgotten all about the pain.

Donghae leaned forward, slowly approaching the red haired boy. Hyukjae did the same and their lips were only millimeters apart. Hesitation from both lingered but Donghae managed to fight it and closed the gap between them.

It was a pure, only lips touching kiss. The younger male kept on caressing Hyukjae’s hurt wrist with his thumb and started to deepen the kiss. The older male moaned quietly into the kiss and his well hand trembled its way up to Donghae’s neck. He started to remember the first time Donghae had kissed him. It had been the same as this. His thin lips had moved against his own in perfect synch and his hot tongue explored his mouth. It had been his very first kiss.

Donghae licked his bottom lip asking for entrance, just like the first time. Hyukjae didn’t react because just then he remembered it clearer than ever

“I just wanted you to realize how impossible it is for me to be with someone like you.”

Hyukjae pulled away from the kiss and avoided looking Donghae in the eyes, which weren’t much of a challenge since the blonde also avoided his’.
