Chapter 3
“Goodbye Donghae.”
The blond sat up in the bed and dried off pearls of sweat from his face with his hands. He let out a sigh and rested his body against the wall. Eunhyuk had made Donghae take his bed and settled himself on the couch. Donghae hadn’t objected.
He shifted his position to a more comfortable one and checked the digital clock on the nightstand. 02:43 am. ‘I wonder if Kibum is able to sleep.’ Donghae strained himself not to cry. He would never shed a tear for that person anymore. ‘I guess he is. In another man’s arms’
Donghae couldn’t help but miss someone to lie next to him and fill up his embrace with warmth. For two years he had always had that boy with his beautiful smile lie in his arms, snuggle against his chest every time he woke up.
Flashback
“Hey there” Donghae smiled sleepily as he opened his eyes and met Kibum’s smiling face next to him. “Good morning sleepyhead.” The younger boy drew himself closer to the blonde and placed his lips on Donghae’s nape, and took in a deep breath of the other’s addictive smell.
“Yah, stop teasing me! Or I might not know what I’ll do to you.” Donghae said teasingly and tightened his arms around Kibum’s firm body.
“Mmmh. I have to go soon, Hae. I have tutoring today at Siwon’s place, so I have to get ready.”
Donghae groaned and refused to let go of the younger boy. “Why can’t you just let me help you? I’m a great teacher.”
“You’re awfully bad at math Hae!” Kibum chuckled and planted a kiss on Donghae’s cheek and got out of bed.”Do you even know what ‘Pi’ is?” He picked his clothes and headed towards the bathroom. Donghae lay still in bed and pouted as he watched his lover walked through the door.
Twenty minutes later Kibum walked out of the bathroom and headed over to Donghae who was still lying lazily on the bed. “I’ll leave now.” The blonde gave away a sad grunting. “I love you, Kibummie”
The black haired boy smiled and brushed a blonde sling off Donghae’s face. “Me too.”
Kibum then walked out of the apartment and left the older alone. Donghae got out of bed and walked towards the window that gave a view over the whole street.
Kibum walked towards the red convertible car parked on the opposite side of the street and a well known face to Donghae popped out of the door and greeted his lover.
Siwon followed to the other side of the car and opened the door to let the shorter boy in and walked back to the driver’s seat and then they were off to Siwon’s place.
Donghae slammed the back of his head into the wall, causing a loud thud to sound through the room. “Just, fuck this shit!” He glanced over to the clock once again and let out a pained groan. 02:51 am.
He felt that this night would pass very slowly.

“What’s that?” Donghae pointed his index finger at Choco’s sleeping body in Hyukjae’s lap, with a quite disgusted expression.
“What do you mean by ‘that’? It’s my dog, Choco.”
Donghae didn’t answer to that and walked past him towards the refrigerator to grab a drink.
“It looks like a fur-ball if you ask me.” The blonde grabbed a pink carton and examined it carefully before he blurted out with a smirk plastered to his face. “Strawberry milk? What are you, a 10 year old girl?” Donghae chuckled as he put the carton back in the fridge and instead grabbed a bottle of water. He was quite rude for meeting someone for the first time (or so he thought), thought Hyukjae but blushed slightly in embarrassment after Donghae’s discovery of his favorite beverage. The blonde settled himself across the table.
“Uhm, what do you want to eat for breakfast? Toasts? Fried eggs? Cere-“
“I don’t eat in the mornings.” Donghae cut him off and took a sip from the water. Hyukjae pouted slightly.
“You know, that’s not good for your health. Breakfast is really important.” Hyukjae insisted but he gave up as the younger male gave him a ‘You-don’t-need-to-care-what’s-healthy-for-me-or-not’ glare.
“Uhm… So Donghae, how long have you planned on s-staying here?”
The blonde just shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. I guess I need a place to stay at until my mom gets pack, whenever that is. But you don’t mind me staying here?
“What? N-no, no, not at all! You could stay here as long as you’d like!”
‘Lee Hyukjae, you have won the price for biggest fool of the year, congratulations! Seriously, you should just throw him out! But I really can’t, he’s got nowhere to go. And I don’t think he might be too much of a problem. Just let him stay here as long as he needs and pretend he’s a stranger you’ve just met. That’s a great idea! You won’t see him much because of school and work. But on the other side…’ Hyukjae kept on having a debate in his head until Donghae interrupted it.
“I’m going to the university today.” It came really unexpected and Hyukjae raised his eyebrows.
“You’re applying for the SM University (oh my fantasy is so unique) here?”
The blonde shook his head. “I already did that last week before I came here. I’m starting today, so you’ll have to give me the directions.” The redhead grew a little nervous.
“That’s the same university I go to.” He answered quietly, and Donghae just gave him a nod and drank the rest of the water.

“Are you out of your freaking mind, Lee Hyukjae?” Sungmin let out a sigh and messed up his hair in frustration. “What are your real intentions? Make him like you?” The older boy half-shouted while staring at his friend and sat back at his chair. The people around them chattered happily with their friends and didn’t notice the cute boy speaking too loud. This is where the two of them usually met up when they needed to talk.
“Why do you say it like it is impossible for him to like me?” Hyukjae looked up from his cup of hot steaming chocolate he had ordered and earned a glare from his friend.
“Oh my god. You don’t mean that’s what you’re trying to do?” Sungmin’s grip on his cup hardened and it looked like the cup would break any second.
“Of course not! He just didn’t have anywhere to go. I can’t let him go and wander the streets until his mom comes back, can I?”
“Well he treated you like a piece of dirt, why can’t you do the same thing to him?”
“That’s not right. By the way, it seems like he doesn’t remember who I am anyway.” He took a sip from his chocolate and stared out the window as people walked past in a hurry.
“What? That just gives you an even bigger reason to kick him out!” Sungmin took a big gulp from his cup to get over his angry and it helped a little. Hyukjae just sighed as he tore his eyes from the window.
Hyukjae didn’t speak for a very long time so his friend would calm down and accept the situation.
“Have you done any progress with that Kyuhyun-boy yet?” he suddenly asked when the other’s face had softened and Sungmin turned pink in an instant. He snickered at his friend’s cuteness.
“I said I wouldn’t bother about him anymore” he answered in a tiny voice. Hyukjae gave him a tell-me-everything-or-I’ll-steal-all-your-bunny-plushies-look, and Sungmin got it. “Well. I just kind of bumped into him again yesterday.” His face turned even redder and he kept his eyes on the table. “He kind of smiled at me, I think. Actually, it was more of a grin…” The black haired boy sighed and hid his face with his hands.
“He might be interested in you after all” Hyukjae smiled and stood up. “We should go now, Min. Our next class starts in a little while.”
Sungmin followed his actions and they walked out of the café.
“By the way, which classes are Donghae taking?” the older boy asked, though rather uninterested, when they came into the university grounds.
“I…don’t really know. I never asked him, but I think he mentioned something about soccer.” Hyukjae was a little disappointed at himself for not taking notice of Donghae’s choice of classes. Their way to the university had been really quiet because Hyukjae didn’t know what to talk about, and Donghae didn’t even seem like he was interested in talking at all.
“Well, at least he didn’t end up in our class. I don’t think I could have accepted being near him.” Sungmin gritted his teeth and kicked a small stone that was lying innocently on the ground.
“Please Minnie, don’t be like that. You might just get used to him, because your lovey dovey seems to like him.”
The black haired boy looked confused at his friend before following his gaze and landed on the two boys, Kyuhyun and Donghae, entering the building together and it looked like they got along very well. Hyukjae was relieved that the blonde had found a friend really fast.
“Let’s go now. Ms. Park won’t be happy if we’re late.”
~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨
The day passed to slow for Hyukjae’s liking. He barely payed any attention to the lecture and just sat and drew circles in his book. He tried his best to stay awake and not fall asleep on his desk. His couch sure was comfortable to sit on, but to sleep on it… Let’s just say it wasn’t as comfortable. When the never ending lesson was over the students yawned and dragged their feet out of the classroom. Hyukjae packed up his stuff and bid good-bye to Sungmin. The latter didn’t really want to walk with him, since Hyukjae said that he had promised to wait for Donghae so they could go home together.
Hyukjae waited outside the building Donghae had his classes in. He leaned against the bricked wall and watched the sun setting behind the trees and reflected in their yellow and red leaves. A bitter cold wind flew by and the redhead shivered and hoped that Donghae would turn up anytime soon. He didn’t want to go into the building to look for the blonde because he knew he would get lost in there. After all, he had no classes in the eastern building.
Twenty minutes had passed the time Hyukjae had decided for the two of them to meet up. He started to rub his arms to keep up his warmth. He hadn’t brought his warmest jacket today, since he had lent it to the stupid person who wouldn’t turn up. He sighed and checked his watch. Half an hour… ‘Yah, Donghae! Hurry up; I need to go to work!’ Maybe the blonde had got lost himself? The grounds of the university were empty by now. Hyukjae shot up from his position at the wall to go to look for Donghae in the building. Just as he was to open the door he almost collided with a teacher.
“I’m so sorry, sir. Are you okay?”
“Don’t worry boy.” The man smiled assuringly towards him. “I’m fine, I’m fine. But what are you still doing here? Did you leave something behind?”
“Not really, sir. I’m waiting for someone who hasn’t turned up yet so I was going to look for him.”
“Really? I didn’t see a single soul left in there. Who are you waiting for?”
“Uhm… His name is Lee Donghae, sir.”
“Oh yes, Donghae-sshi. He was at my lecture before, but I’m pretty sure he left as soon as it ended.”
Hyukjae’s heart sank.
“Is that so? Well then, thank you very much sir.” Hyukjae bowed and the older man returned it with a nod.
The redhead started walking directly to his work.
“And I thought he wouldn’t be much of a problem…” Hyukjae sighed, feeling rather upset about Donghae ditching him like this. The latter had agreed on it himself, so why the heck had he left alone anyway?
He fished up his cell phone and held it up against his ear.
“Hey, Jungsu-hyung. I wanted to tell you I might be a little late for work, but I’m on my way right now.”
“It’s okay Eunhyuk, take your time. We’ve got you covered up. “
“Thank you hyung, I’ll hurry up. See you.”
~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨
Hyukjae walked as fast as he could so he wouldn’t stay out in the cold for too long. It had been more customers than usually today so he had got off work later to clean everything up. The weather had become a lot colder nighttime. The yellow dried-up leaves on the ground made crisping sounds under his feet. The night was dark and the sky was grey with clouds. It would probably rain tonight. “I’ll make sure to have Choco with me to sleep so she won’t freak out.” He said out loud to himself and hurried up the stairs to his apartment. He wasn’t very fond of the elevator so he had always climbed up the stairs even though he lived on the tenth floor. He opened the door and hurried in to get some warmth.
“Hello?” Hyukjae took off his shoes and made his way into the kitchen. He knew Donghae must be back since the door was left unlocked. He looked around the apartment for any sign of Choco. She always greeted him when he came back. The redhead knocked carefully on the bedroom door to ask Donghae about his little pet. Actually, he was still a little mad at the blonde and didn’t feel like talking to him because of that. But his anger faded away quickly as he saw a really sweet scenery before his eyes. Donghae was lying asleep on his back on the bed, and his hand was placed on the soft fur of Hyukjae’s dog that was sleeping heavily on top of Donghae’s chest. Hyukjae smiled at how cute they looked. ‘He didn’t dislike Choco after all’. But he also noticed Donghae’s facial expression looked upset, and sad. He walked closer and crouched next to the bed so his face was in the same level as the blonde’s.
“Donghae…” he whispered softly. “Why do you have to be this way?” The blonde stirred and Hyukjae sighed and got up before he would wake the other up.
~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨
It had almost past two weeks since Donghae had moved into Hyukjae’s apartment. But they hadn’t seen much of each other even though they lived under the same roof.
Donghae usually left for school the moment Hyukjae wakes up, and in school they don’t see each other because they’re in different buildings. If he was lucky, he could get a glance of Donghae in the crowded cafeteria during lunch. One day he actually caught him so they could talk, but the blonde had ignored him to the fullest.
And afterwards Hyukjae had his part-time job, and whenever he was free, Donghae would be out somewhere. He had no idea what he was doing either. If he was just hanging out with friends, partying or if he had got a job himself. He had always fallen fast asleep before Donghae had returned, so he never got the opportunity to ask.
But maybe, he thought, not seeing Donghae around too much was a good thing. Every time Hyukjae got close to him his heart would start beating like mad. He tried his very best to control his feelings but it was too hard, knowing the cause of his fluttering heart was sleeping in the room next to him.
When the two of them finally sat down together, the silence was awfully awkward. Hyukjae couldn’t bring himself to have an ordinary conversation. And Donghae didn’t seem like he was enjoying talking sessions too much, which made it even harder. But the latter never ignored him at home, as he had done in school.
‘I should just let him be and don’t disturb him while he’s here. But that would be too weird to live together and totally ignore each other. Actually, he should be more thankful I let him live here. Because I should hate him.’ Hyukjae sighed and Donghae sat and flipped through the different TV channels. He stopped at a channel showing a drama which had become very popular recently. The redhead laid all his interest at the television to forget the debate in his head. Just as the man on the TV was about to run out in the rain after the girl he loved, who had told him they couldn’t be together, the channel switched once again. Hyukjae pouted a little and Donghae didn’t miss seeing it.
“You like those dramas?” He said in a slight mocking voice. Hyukjae just shook his head as a response as nervousness grew inside of him when Donghae all of a sudden talked to him.
“Uhm, Donghae…” Hyukjae fiddled with the hem of his shirt as he spoke.
The blonde hummed lazily as a response and continued his search for an interesting TV-show.
“I don’t have work tomorrow, so I was wondering i-if you-“
Hyukjae stopped talking because of the interruption of Donghae’s loud yawning. “I’m off to bed.”
The younger male stood up and walked into the bedroom and closed the door firmly behind himself.
“Good night…” Hyukjae mumbled sadly to Donghae, who wouldn’t be able to hear him. ‘He obviously doesn’t like me.’ Damn it.
~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨~¨
Donghae sighed as he closed the door behind himself. He could hear Eunhyuk mumbling something, whether it was to himself or to Donghae he didn’t know and he slumped down onto the bed. He started to feel bad towards the redhead for barging into his house like this. There was no reason in the world that said Eunhyuk had to be this kind to him. He was just a stranger who had nowhere to go, and the redhead had the heart to help him.
But he didn’t know how to repay the kindness he received. He had tried to stay away from Eunhyuk as much as possible. Even though he was nice, he still found the other male a bit odd. He stayed mostly because he got a place to sleep and eat at, because it was much better than a bench in the park. He hadn’t had any contact with his old friends from Seoul so it’d just be weird to barge in at their place all of a sudden. “But that’s not as weird as staying with an unknown person.” Donghae sighed and crawled under the covers. At least he had found a part-time job so he would be able to buy himself some new clothes so he wouldn’t need to borrow Eunhyuk’s. But he still wouldn’t earn enough to pay for a hotel. “I’ll just pay him back when my mom returns.” Donghae nodded to himself for his nice plan and closed his eyes for some sleep.

A/N: I’m starting to hate this story… Seriously. I just watched videos with Donghae and then thought back to this. WHAT THE HELL HAVE I DONE TO HIS CHARACTER?? He’s such a loving, kind and beautiful person, and here I am - making him look like an asshole… I feel so ashamed of myself TT___TT I’m so sorry Donghae! Now I just want to get this over with…. (But I’ll try to not rush through it and I won’t quit writing.)
And I’m sorry I’ve taken so long to update… I really didn’t expect to have this much in school, but I’ll soon have my summer holiday and then I’ll probably be able to update more often :D
I hope I don’t disappoint you too much with the storyline ^^’’ I’ll try to make it better. Comments are Super Loved <3
