Good News and Bad News...

First The Bad News:

The begonia which has been occupying a space on the HonHoi kitchen window sill for some months is currently under 24hr suicide watch.

At approximately 16:58 this afternoon staff discovered the plant lying on the kitchen floor in a pile of it's own potting compost.

Staff had observed that the plant appeared to be unbalanced for a number of days leading up to this event, but did not believe that it posed a threat to itself or others at that time.

It is believed that the plant threw itself from the window ledge not long before staff arrived on the scene.  An independent inquiry was held and altough neighbouring african violets declined to comment no other plants or animals are currently being sought in relation to these unfortunate events.  The plant is now in a stable condition (propped against the window).  With suitable treatment (repotting or pruning) the plant is expected to make a full recovery and resume life as a fully functioning and well balanced member of window ledge society.

Then the Good News:

Various things have been achieved today:
  - Persuaded scanner to work under Ubuntu (although intermittently)
 - Scanned Engraving stuff
 - Scanned character expressions sheet
 - Tidied up after plant based kitchen incident
 - Registered as a volunteer with SWT (I plan to join a Hedge Laying work party tomorrow)
 - Took a short walk (and got some shopping done)

The day is still young, there is yet time to do more stuff.
