My Views on Commitment

When I was born, my mother committed me to the Jedi. But all she could promise them was that I they could raise me and train me - she could not promise that I would remain with them for a lifetime. Many who come to the training do not remain - it is a hard life, and many are not suited for it, no matter the promises made by a sad but proud parent.

When I became a Padawan, I committed myself to learning all that I could from my Master, that I might become a Jedi Knight. I would learn to be a defender of the weak and a giver of law and justice. I justified my parent’s commitment to give me over for the training.

When I took my first Padawan, I committed myself to his nurturing, his development, and his training. I made a bargain with him and with the Council, that I would turn him into a Knight of the Order, proud and strong. In return my Padawan made a commitment to learn, grow, and be of service to the Order, and through us, the Republic.

The life of a Jedi is nothing without commitment. We live it and breathe it. Without it, we are nothing.
