TM: The Morning After

ooc: While Obi and I were planning on using this time-period for the prompt, he and I wanted to be all emo-Jedi about it. Then we read this lovely piece and were inspired to write our own version. Thanks, love!

It had taken Obi-Wan ages to fall asleep, and even then he was given no respite from the red blade in his dreams. He kept seeing Qui-Gon's surprised look as Darth Maul's lightsabre pierced the Jedi's torso. The scene would replay itself numerous times before Obi-Wan would snap awake, adrenaline pumping through his veins and choking for air. He would be drenched in sweat, and the covers would be on the floor or tangled around his legs. And each time, he would discover that mere minutes had passed since the last brutal awakening as he padded to the 'fresher and splash water over his face.

He'd stare in the mirror, his naked torso cut off by the waistband of his sleep-pants. The dark circles under his eyes were darker each time, as well. He needed rest, and he wasn't getting it. This time, he scrubbed his hands through his hair, closed his eyes and sighed deeply. After a long moment, he shut off the light and headed back to his bed. He picked the covers up off the ground and re-made the bed. Then he crawled underneath and lay on his back, staring at the ceiling. He let his breathing slow, and he felt his eyelids get heavy.

He didn't even realize it when fatigue finally claimed him and drew him into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Obi-Wan felt a crushing weight upon his chest. What made it odd was that it was an external force and not internal grief that he was feeling. With a groan, his hands found their way up to his face and he rubbed the sleep away, not wanting to open his eyes. He really didn't want to go through the whole process again. As he pressed his fists to his eyes, the weight shifted slightly. Not very much, but enough for him to feel it. It was then that the pressure he was feeling shift from crushing to ohmyforceanotherbody!

He slowly opened his eyes and saw the piercing blue orbs of Anakin Skywalker staring at him. It may have been concern etched in the boy's features, it may just have been curiosity. Either way, the lad was kneeling on Obi-Wan's chest and staring. The young Jedi stifled a yawn and decided he should speak first.

"Anakin, wha-?" he never finished the question, for no sooner had Obi-Wan's addressed him, the boy scrambled off his chest and bounded out of the room. Obi-Wan blinked. He glanced at his chrono. Hours had gone by this time. That was promising.

Logging this strange incident in the back of his mind and promising himself to ask Anakin about it later, Obi-Wan rolled onto his side and tried to get back to sleep. Just as he was nodding off, he felt the mattress shift under him, and then a small body was burrowing under the covers and under Obi-Wan's arm. Again, Obi-Wan found himself blinking, as Anakin's hair tickled his nose.

With another sigh, this one fond and accompanied by a smile, Obi-Wan closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around the lad.

It wasn't very long before the two were fast asleep in the early dawn, each holding on to the other in much needed comfort.
