I'm not really doing anything now - my life pretty much consists of sleeping in, downing some coffee, checking for jobs (there's never any), and then reading or trawling the net for the rest of the day while half-heartedly sorting our music collection - so at about 2 this morning I decided to train myself into polyphasic sleep. I stuffed it up of course - I slept for the required 25 minutes, and was then supposed to be awake til 6am, but at about 4 I got bored (reading Dawkins by torch makes your eyes glaze over) and dozed off again, missing a complete 4 hours of wakefulness. It has been documented by bloggers that one of the main problems with changing your sleep patterns to give you more waking time (there's other versions where you only sleep twice, or you have less naps for longer periods and such, but this is the most common one: 4 hours awake, 20-25 minutes asleep) is that you get bored, and end up going to sleep not so much because you are tired but because you don't have anything to do (and can't do anything much in case it disturbs those living with you). I guess the key is to not stay in bed, as I tend to, because it is just too comfortable - but bed is also the easiest place to read and write by torch.
