Yes, it's mainly a show to see what people are wearing, but here are a few predictions.
Director: Martin Scorcese - It' s his time. People feel guily about not giving him one earlier.
Picture - Aviator - Pictures almost always go with the Director. Can't think of one that hasn't.
Actor - Jamie Foxx - Usually a double nomition will get the supporting award, but he's really good in Ray.
Actress - Annette Bienning - She plays a diva theater person. The Academy loves to vote for those roles. Again they'll feel they owe her one.
Supporting Actress - Virginia Madsen - Come back role and they're not giving Sideways best picture soooo.. . .
Supporting Actor - Thomas Haden Church - ditto.
Cinemaphotography - House of Flying Daggers - Every shot is breath-taking.
Animation - Incredibles - This is the only gimme.
Screenplays (adapted and original) - Sideways and Eternal Sunshine. If you can't give them best picture, give them the screenplay.
That's it , I can't even guess at editing, set construction, and costumes.
