“I need you to meld with me.” Ash announced as she entered Liara’s lab.
Liara looked puzzled. “But...why? Do you have information like Shepard...?”
“Not that kind of meld,” Ashley butted it. “The special one. The one where you live my memories, see and feel everything that I know.”
Liara blushed as if Ashley had just requested that she perform a sex act on her. “Chief. I’m not really sure you truly understand...”
“Relax, jeez, I don’t plan on getting freaky with a freak.” The Marine began pacing the small room. “All I want you to do is take a look at my memories of combat training. Hand to hand, light weapons, that sort of thing. Wrex thinks it’ll boost your learning curve.”
The asari seemed doubtful. “It is...possible."
“It can’t hurt to try, right?” Ash was impatient. “Look, I’m on Shepard’s shit list until you’re battle ready. So that means you’re on my shit list. And trust me, sweetie, that’s not a place you want to be.”
Liara became defensive. “I’ve done nothing to...”
“Exactly,” Ash ran a hand over her hair. “Your whole life, you’ve never done any kind of serious training. It’s impossible to get you ready for a fight in three weeks. Your only chance of being ready is to do this right now.”
“Very well,” Liara was still hesitant, but she stood up. “Are you sure Chief, you must be calm and...”
“I’m very sure.” Ash stood in front of Liara. “Just do your thing. I’ve got some memories picked out that you should do very well in.”
Liara was still uneasy. Viewing someone’s memories was one thing, living them was something else. Slowly, she began the mantra. “Calm yourself. Reach and grasp...”
Ash shook her head. “Look, I’m not interested in all that harmony BS. Just get in my mind, get what you need and get back out. No touching anything that doesn’t belong to you.”
Liara nodded. “Embrace Eternity!”
Liara felt a rush of air, then felt herself standing underneath a hot Brazillian sun. She wasn’t sure how she knew that she was in Brazil, or why she was lying on the ground, doubled up, gasping for breath.
--------------------------------
“I said UP, boot!” A red faced human wearing a wide brimmed campaign hat stood over her, screaming. “Don’t you know which way up is?!”
“Sir, yes sir!” Liara found herself answering, then vaulting back to her feet, and finally joining the other recruits standing in the line.
“Welcome to HELL, maggots!” The DI roared as he strode down the line. “Welcome to the Corps!”
---------------------
Liara was past boot camp in minutes. She had vaulted obstacles courses, endured the taunts and snubs from the Drill Instructors, qualified on her rifle.
The scenes began flashing faster. She was in the ring with the hand to hand instructor. She was grappling with two other recruits. She was at NCO school with fifty other hopefuls. She was going over the bayonet course. She was taking an advanced class in Jiu-jitsu.
And then suddenly she was flirting with a well muscled Service Chief. What was the harm? They were of equal rank, in different units, and he had the cutest eyes. The next second she was in the service closet with him. There wasn’t any time for foreplay, or ever disrobing. A quick unfastening of belts and zips, then a brutal, fast and surprisingly satisfying five minutes.
Liara was intrigued, making a conscious effort to slow down the flood of memories. Instead of continuing to walk through strength and conditioning techniques, Liara followed the thread that stayed with the Service Chief...James was his name. Ten more personal meetings over the next six days, each one getting longer and more intimate. They learned each other, explored little quirks and kinks in their bodies. Each session a constant struggle for dominance, leaving her more bruised and scratched than she’d ever....
“Get. Out.” A voice hissed in Liara’s ear, as the connection was severed.
-----------------------------
Head swimming, and brain synapses still twitching, Liara looked around. She was back in the science lab, with Chief Williams leaning against the wall and staring at her with unrestrained anger.
“Chief...” The maiden tried to apologise.
“Report to me in the hangar bay at 0100 Hours tonight,” Ashley grated her words. “I’ll make a fucking soldier out of you, even if it kills me.”
