some shows rise from the ashes

There are shows that I begin to watch, get frustrated about (due to time-slot shifts, plot stagnation, or waiting in general), and then sacrifice to the gods of other-things-to-watch. Grey's Anatomy is one of those; I gave it up after the second season had passed, and I've never picked it up again.

Other shows get a resurrection. Heroes is on that list. It's another show that I let fall off my radar after the second season because it was sharing the time-slot with House and I cared more about House. Then I saw the entirety available on Netflix's instant queue, and thought, Well, why not? I picked up where I left off, and had a marathon through to the end of the fourth (and most recent) season. And then I went back and watched the first two seasons over again to fully process how much the characters had evolved.

Some shows need a marathon viewing--one long movie instead of week after week of cliff-hangers and the usual season gaps of winter holidays and show hiatus. Heroes is definitely worth watching, but I understand myself well enough to know that it's the kind of show for which I require instant gratification.

Anyway, in short, I'm glad I picked it up again. But I'm probably not going to tune in to the fifth season until I can watch it all in one go.

The next on the instant-watch/-gratification list is Rescue Me. That one I probably could watch week after week without the frustration of Heroes or Lost (which is just worth the frustration--and anyway, it's the last season); but I've always wanted to start from the beginning, and only now have the opportunity.

As for movies, I haven't seen anything new since Alice In Wonderland--but I did watch Star Trek (2009) yesterday. You might suppose that I was on a Zachary Quinto kick, and you might be right. Whatchya want? He's lovely.
