Weekend

It seems like it's been a while.

I got to see a number of friends over the weekend, though none were due to pleasant circumstances. I think the company made a difference, or at least I hope it did. (I know it did for me, for which I'm very thankful.)

Saturday, we had a fire along with a fairly edible dinner (artichoke casserole) and lots of tea. Alyssa had brought along her beads and was making up earrings at quite the clip. She make a wonderful pair with skulls for Erika to wear today.

Yesterday, we slept in late, since we were up so long the night before. Andrew & I cooked up another yummy breakfast. It's nice to have someone to cook with! Afterward, we took a trip to the DIA to see the Camille Claudel and Rodin exhibit. We opted for the non-audio tour, which got us in faster. However, I got my own personal audio tour from Alyssa, who seemed to know everything about them and their art. As someone who knows pretty much nothing about art history, it was quite an experience to have someone to answer my questions as we went through the exhibit. It was also enlightening to have first hand someone with a different interpretation of their work & how they interrelated.

I wasn't completely useless, however. I was able to translate some of the letters the various folks had written to each other. I'm curious as to why they don't translate letters and such that are on display into English. I can't imagine they'd expect all that many people to be able to read French. It left me with the impression that they want to leave it inaccessible, somehow. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it.

Last night was comfort food night. I cooked (again! Amazing!) some mushroom spinach stuff, which would have been better if I'd had pine nuts. After that, we lit another fire, and I whipped (*smirk*) up some cream to have with strawberries and hot chocolate. Hooray for comfort food.

I had to be in to work early today, so I couldn't stay up too late. I did get lots of cuddles and a wonderful back rub by the fire before falling asleep.

Amazingly, I did actually make it in to work at by 6:30 this morning. Last night was one of those nights where I woke up about once an hour. Oddly, each time I woke up, I was feeling refreshed, which made it all the more surprising when I looked at my clock and discovered that it was still not time to get up.

Other highs & lows:
Only two days until my package arrives. *happy dance* I don't have any idea when I'll have time to buy a television. Maybe next week?

Mom had her scan today, but I don't know if she has any results yet.

It appears that I have about an hour until I need to go to bed. I think I'll take advantage of this time to study Japanese.

We 4 kanji to learn last week. As far as I can tell, there's no correlation among those that he gave us to learn. I'm wondering if there's a more effective way for me to learn them than writing them over and over. That seemed to work for learning the kana and other words. This seems just a notch more difficult in that I'm not certain how I will remember two separate readings (on yomi & kun yomi) for each character. And now I see on wikipedia that some kanji have several on yomi readings.

Is there a particular way I need to think in order to simplify this, or is this just somewhere I need to rely on my memorization skills?

friends, japanese, family
