I started a rather lengthy blog entry about my trip, which I may finish someday. However, a brief summary of the highs and lows of the mail points of the trip may be easier to digest anyway.
Friday
- Flew to VA. Met up with Alyssa & Andrew & spent the night at their house.
- Renamed Coda and Robin to "puppy" and "black puppy" respectively, in hopes that it would make me like them better. No noticeable effect on either the puppies or me.
- Helped Andrew with cake making by counting the number of tablespoons of cocoa added.
Saturday
- Lost a filling while eating breakfast. Searched online for a dentist and found one with Saturday hours. Made an appointment for 1:00 PM. Skipped the remainder of breakfast.
- Hugged Finian! Missed the opportunity for a game of Settlers of Catan due to need to be taken to dentist office. Had filling replaced.
- Hugged Misty! Went with everyone to Sonya's. Met new people, including one who reminded me distinctly of mangamaniac.
- Spent the night at Fin & Misty's. Left the bedroom door open so that Tamlin could come in rather than meow and scratch at the door all night. Was treated to Tamlin playing with cat toys in the room all night instead. (It was OK once I decided he wouldn't get trapped under the pull out bed.)
Sunday
- Had brunch at Todai.
- Spent time chatting & playing Settlers of Catan at Fin & Misty's.
- Went to bed and woke up to find Tamlin climbing over me, but still beneath the blanket. Fell back asleep with Tamlin curled up behind my knees.
Monday
- Checked work email to make certain that weekend work went all right. It did! Hooray!
- Went with Misty & Andrew to Colonial Williamsburg. Decided on the way that was too far to drive for an afternoon trip, so stopped off in Fredericksburg instead.
- Picked up tasty fudge for B. in Fredericksburg.
- Visited the Liberty Town Arts studio and purchased something to hang in the window. Decided to try making some on my own.
- Visited the copper shop and spoke with the coppersmith (correct word?) there. Most interesting fellow, who evidently will be profiled in the December 2008 issue of Southern Living
- Walked around the downtown a lot, looking at the neat old buildings and shops.
- Headed back to Fairfax. Played more games of Settlers of Catan. Played Taboo.
- Went over to Andrew & Alyssa's for the night.
Tuesday
- Went with Andrew & Alyssa to downtown Alexandria to the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Saw some amazing things (pictures potentially available later), including pots within pots and a large metal cube withing a cube. (Descriptions are evidently not my forte.)
- Had wonderful fish & chips for lunch, along with a bit of Flake bar.
- Headed back to Andrew & Alyssa's for the last game of Settlers of Catan.
Wednesday
- Morning flight home. Arrived home in time to have lunch with B. before heading to work for the afternoon.
There are lots of things to see in Virginia, so I'd like to plan to go back to do those things. The ones one my list right now are seeing the
Luray Caverns (conveniently accompanied by a hedge maze ^_^) and spending a couple of days at
Colonial Williamsburg. I also have a bit of a hankering to visit
Monticello, if only because as a child I used it as a basis for drawing some of my favorite house floor plans.
