[And he pulls a small object off of his belt, pushing a button so it enlarges, and showing it to her.]

It encapsulates a pokemon, so you can carry them around with you easier. See?

[Pressing the button again- the ball flips open and Slowbro beside him flashes into a stream of red light, which disintegrates into the ball, which closes and becomes smaller again.]

[Raven bliks as the pokemon disappears into the ball.] Well that's definitely a very convenient way to carry them... How does it work exactly? Is it some kind of magic?

In a sense, from what I've seen around here. It's hard to really explain...

[A pause.]

From watching you people interact with others and animals, it's clear that my world placed a lot more focus on the creatures around us. Pokemon aren't just- subservient, they're allies. Partners. Many of them are smarter than people!

From an early stage in our time, our people have... taken a more naturalistic approach. A lot of our technology revolves around pokemon and trainers, and goes to help strengthen the bond between them. I don't know much about the details or any of the intricacies, but- it's just advanced in a different way.

Partners? Well that can happen in the world I'm from but it's quite rare.

[The word "bond" immediately catches Raven's interest.] There's a bond between you and your pokemon. What kind of bond exactly?

It's different for everyone. Some people only see pokemon as tools. Their bond is... simplistic. The pokemon fight for them because they tell them to, and trainers must be obeyed, in most cases.

[Like... how Will is. Was? Used to be. Probably.]

Others... their pokemon fight for them because they love them- trust them. Some people, like Lance, can form a bond so strong, that they practically read one another's thoughts.

[He thinks for a moment, before Xatu pops up behind him and he laughs.]

One of the perks of being a psychic trainer is that- communication. Xatu and I exchange thoughts almost constantly. We've been together so long... it's like we're a part of one another.
