RP Experience (links are helpful, but not necessary!): I've only rped with any type of organized group like this once, several years ago. If anyone is familiar with Newsies, and Newsies rp, I was a part of a few Boarding Houses. Since then, I rp frequently with friends I've met through these various groups, mostly Newsies, HP or original story lines.
About the Character
Full Name: Magdalena "Maggie" Aurelia Martinez
Date of Birth/Age: October 23rd, 17
Parents: Francisco and Isabella Martinez, prominent Spanish landowners who have a successful winery and dabble in flying horses sales.
Siblings and Other Family of Note: An only child, but her uncle, Diego, works for the Ministry.
Home: Barcelona, Spain
House (if a Hogwarts student): Slytherin
Wand: Dragon Heart string, Redwood, 10 in.
Favorite subjects (if a Hogwarts student - why?): Astronomy. She thinks it's all fascinating stuff, really. Interesting the connection between the cosmos and what happens here on Earth, isn't it?
Least favorite subjects (as above): Potions. She knows Snape is her head of house and all, but he still gives her the willies. That and her hand shakes a bit, so she always end up putting too much of whatever in and causing a mess.
Profession (if not in school): N/A
Appearance (be detailed, and feel free to include a link to a picture of your intended play-by (PB)):
She's fairly tall, at about 5'9. Curvy, with full hips, wearing a size 12 dress. Dark brown, wavy hair down to her mid-back and dark, chocolate eyes. She has full lips, thick eyelashes and expressive eyes, and a tattoo of a horse head on the back of her left shoulder.
Personality (strengths, weaknesses, quirks, etc): She's smart (almost was put into Ravenclaw, actually), and does well in all her classes, but wishes she could do better in potions so that Snape wouldn't scowl at her so often. She's clever and ambitious, helping her father with the business, but dreams of becoming a substantial figure in the Ministry. She enjoys talking politics and is rather dumbfounded at the blind allegiance to the Dark Lord she sees in her fellow Housemates. She's as equally dumbfounded by the Ministry's blind refusal to acknowledge his presence. She, nor her family, take the Dark Lords desires as positive, as anyone who tries to take over the world is sure to screw everyone over eventually. Her opposition to the Death Eaters' cause, and thus her opposition to many of her Housemates leaves her feeling vulnerable, so most of her friends are outside of Slytherin. She puts on a rather ambivalent facade, but is in fact worried about the things to come, especially because her father publicly denounced the Dark Lord during the first war. Although she may appear aloof, she is a calculating person and treats each of her relationships with wary caution. Because of this, her friendships tend to be surface-level, at best. However, she is caring and loyal to those she knows are worth her care and loyalty, and tries to be at least friendly towards everyone.
Relationships (include friendships, characters whom your character might be unfriendly with, and intended/past romantic ships, if applicable): Her friendships aren't very close, though she would open up to someone if she truly thought it mattered to them. She sees intimate relationships as interesting, though perhaps annoying, but hasn't had enough experience to make a decision either way. She's pretty, though, and flirtatious when she wants to be, so who knows...
Background (a brief history of your character. Give us some childhood, some teen/student years [up until the end of OotP, if you are applying for a Hogwarts student...please be sure to include how the events of the first few Potter books affected your character...etc): She's an only child to doting parents, though her father has been sure to put her to work if she ever wanted anything. She learned how to ride winged horses at an early age, and competed throughout the Mediterranean. Her childhood was pleasant, if uneventful, but she was always aware of her father's burnt bridges among suspected Death Eaters. Beauxbatons was closest to her Northern-Spanish homestead, but her mother had graduated from Hogwarts as a Slytherin. The political war within the French Ministry had made Beauxbatons a less than safe place and her parents decided transferring to Hogwarts would be best. The goings-on of the past years never directly affected her, but she never took that for granted. Her uncle's involvement in the British Ministry made her family privy to the political struggles in Voldemort's homeland and news of The Boy Who Lived's continuing involvment spread quickly, along with the rumors of the Dark Lord's return, all the way to the Mediterranean. She never doubted Harry Potter's involvement and knowledge of the return of the Dark Lord, and was surprised when most of the rest of the Wizarding world was either oblivious or in denial. Her father made her very aware of his own political leanings and his vocal opposition to the Death Eaters had made the family targets. It was best she leave and go where it was safest: within range of Dumbledore and the bulk of knowledgeable Aurors.
Sexual Orientation: Straight. She rather enjoys the thought of men in their skivvies.
Kinks/turn ons/turn offs: Aside from being aware that she enjoys having her hair pulled, she hasn't had enough experience to really know either way. Though she is adamant that she at least try to find someone taller than she is, who openly enjoys thick women.
Political association (if any - this can include your character being supportive of death eaters, of the ministry, of dumbledore, etc...be creative, remember your character is an individual! Also let us know WHY they feel a particular association): Is completely opposed to both the Death Eaters and the majority of the Ministry, as neither plays the game in any sort of intelligent fashion. She believes that if anyone has it right, it would be Dumbledore. Her uncle, Diego, her mother's brother, works in the Import and Export of Magical Items Department at the Ministry and so, although he has no direct influence on or participation with aspects of the war, he is privy to the news that spreads within the Ministry itself that does not make the papers. He keeps his brother-in-law posted about what is happening in Britain, as whatever arises there would be sure to spread to Spain. Because she is so close to her father, he treats Maggie as a sort of confidant when he thinks aloud about the news he recieves. Maggie in turn follows in her father's footsteps, believing the rise of the Dark Lord would only lead to death and destruction for all of the Wizarding world, whether you were to follow him or not.
Intended Journal name (creative names are happy-making, but a default mask_harry, or mask_hermione is fine, too!): This one:
maggie_mistica Two potential plot-bunnies!:
(It would be great if these tied in to your characters personality, and history - think what they might be aiming for, their goals, dreams and aspirations - we are perfectly happy for one of these plot-bunnies to be ship-related (though we'd like for you to have some good reasoning behind it) but one non-ship plot bunny would be greatly appreciated!) She's essentially an outcast in Slytherin, but mostly goes on ignored. This could prove useful if any, ahem, outsiders were inclined to ask her for information she might, ahem, accidentally pick up in passing. She's also got links to the Ministry through her uncle, and has a wealthy father opposed to Death Eaters, who might be willing to play benefactor with some prodding from his only daughter.
Journal Entry Sample:
A beber y a tragar, que el mundo se va a acabar. Eat and drink, for the world is sure to end.
Papá sent me an owl; money for Hogsmeade. I wish he wouldn't, I don't need it, but it's done, so there it is. The little pearl of wisdom he included this time is a bit depressing to think about, but that's Dad for you. Over the summer I asked to remain at Beauxbatons, but Mami would have none of it. She said it was too volatile to stay in France. It was best to be kept in the safety of Hogwarts and Professor Dumbledore. She wouldn't understand, though, would she? Her house loved her when she was here. They all seem to hate me. Or at the very least ignore me. I can't decide which I like better. No se preocupe tanto alrededor hoy, Amor. Usted no pudo vivir para gozar mañana. Don't worry so much about today, you might not live to enjoy tomorrow. Thanks, Dad. He's probably right, after all, with all that's going on. But I still don't know which I like better.
RP Sample (third person narrative, please):
Maggie curled up in the armchair in the common room, pretending to read her potions book but really watching the people around her. All the muttering about what happened at the Ministry and the Dark Lord returning...it was starting to unnerve her. It was no secret that her parents, even her Slytherin mother, denounced Him. Every so often, when some smart-mouthed Slytherin drone decided to acknowledge her existence, she'd her hisses of "blood traitor." But it didn't matter to her. She worried more about her father.
Maggie closed her book, pushing a loose piece of hair out of her eyes. Maybe she'd go study in the library, or out on the lawn. Her mother was always insisting she open up to people more, make more friends. Maggie was starting to think she might be right. She gathered her things and slipped out, unnoticed.
