RP Experience (links are helpful, but not necessary!):I've been playing on LJ / GJ in HP RPG's for four years now. I've only got the one character at the moment, Tonks (thinktanktonks) who I play over at Fiery Inception. However, she's my first Tonks, I've been playing Penelope for nearly as long as I've been playing altogether.

Another recent game in which I played (and co-modded) was Soul Searching, my characters there were Penelope (ss_penelope) and Theodore Nott (nottaloser). Who I miss like woah, especially Penelope, hence why I'm applying here!

About the Character
Full Name: Penelope Clearwater
Nicknames: Penny, Pen
Date of Birth/Age: May 12th 1976
Parents: Mother; Elizabeth Dutton (44, part time librarian), Father; Mike Clearwater (47, music teacher)
Siblings and Other Family of Note: Sister; Anna Clearwater (14, muggle student)
Home: Penelope is still living with her parents but is looking for a small place of her own to move into now that her bank accounts (her one at Gringotts and her one at Barclays the muggle bank) permit. She's very careful with her money and since leaving school three years ago has saved up just enough to support herself (though not lavishly, Penelope's job at the Ministry will simply pay any bills that come through and leave enough for her to get by…if she gets somewhere small).

House (if a Hogwarts student): Ravenclaw Alumni
Wand: Ash, 11", Dragon Heartstring
Favourite subjects (if a Hogwarts student - why?): As a student Penelope favoured Astronomy and Care of Magical Creatures above all others. While gaining impressive grades in most of her lessons, she favoured these as they were as enjoyable to her as they were informative (though Penelope never really took to Professor Hagrid, the very few lessons he did manage 'teach' her year anyway). Astronomy was always deemed appropriately romantic in her eyes too and even now, since leaving Hogwarts, Penelope likes to keep check of the stars on clear nights with the telescope she received on her eighteenth birthday. A prized possession of hers and quite possibly the most expensive item she owns.
Least favourite subjects (as above): Flying and Charms, being hopeless at both. Penelope is, however, an avid Quidditch fan, backing the Appleby Arrows with every inch of enthusiasm she holds (that being a heck of a lot, Penelope loves nothing more than a wager on a game or two each season, a hobby she used to share with boyfriend Percy Weasley back when arguing over who's house had the better team seemed to be a competitive sport)!

Profession (if not in school): Penelope works as a Secretary in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic. The job doesn't pay much but she is working in one of the area's she had hoped to and has no doubt she can better herself and move onto better things. Optimism is a good trait of Penelope's and one that was needed when taking on the job earlier this year, a secretarial job wasn't what she envisioned for herself but she needed to start somewhere and the job she had taken prior to this one at the library her mother works was even further from her hopes and expectations.

Appearance (be detailed, and feel free to include a link to a picture of your intended play-by (PB)): Penny is a very slight young woman, with curly brown hair which she wears mostly at shoulder length, but occasionally shorter. Her eyes are a light brown and are framed by a small neat pair of reading glasses when working. She wears a mash of muggle clothing (usually shirts or jumpers with jeans or knee length skirts with her wizarding robes on most occasions.

I'm hoping to use Natalie Portman as her PB (as I did with my old Penelope ss_penelope. If this is really a problem (hoping it's not!) I can use Sarah Drew.

Personality (strengths, weaknesses, quirks, etc): Penelope is a fairly pleasant girl. She's easy to talk to, understanding (or at least she tries to be) and keen. She's determined (to succeed, this applying to many aspects of her life. Her career, family, love…) and isn't afraid to get her hands mucky. She works towards the things she wants and even goes so far as to do the same for the closest of her friends.

She doesn't have any ticks or obvious quirks but Penelope, although quite an organised person, is as messy as any teenage boy may be. Ask her why the mess and she'll claim that she knows exactly where everything is and that she intends to keep it that way. However, don't mistake her mess for filth, Penelope is in no way dirty, just cluttered in an 'organised mess' kind of way. An unusual trait for a Ravenclaw and one that drove her room mates up the wall back at Hogwarts.

Strengths of hers include Transfiguration, Care of Magical Creatures, mathematics (making her quite an acceptable potion maker) and oddly… talking, while not quite an extrovert, when presented which a topic she is passionate about, Penelope can talk anybody's ear off and this was part of the reason that she and Percy got along so well during their fourth year and on through the rest.

Weaknesses include snakes, digs at her being a muggleborn and people that don't let her get a word in edgeways.

Relationships (include friendships, characters whom your character might be unfriendly with, and intended/past romantic ships, if applicable): The most significant relationship in Penelope's past was with year mate Percy Weasley back during their years at Hogwarts. The two started getting friendly during their fourth year and that summer wrote each other an almost ridiculous amount of times. They became a couple early on during their next year and… (I'd need to speak with the current Percy's player about the rest, however, I'm perfectly happy to play them as still being quite 'friendly' *wink wink* / just friends / having had a bitter parting / I'm up for anything, we (Penny and I) quite like a challenge! Also, a good number of Percy's these days take a preference towards Oliver Wood, so I always keep that in mind just in case! Lol.

As far as friendships are concerned though, Penelope has a number of friends (Percy included, whatever is decided there) none particularly close but she keeps in contact with a good number of old house mates and year mates from school. There aren't many people at the Ministry she would call friends yet (apart from existing ones) but she hasn't been there long and unfortunately working in an office full of boisterous men never helps either!

Background (a brief history of your character. Give us some childhood, some teen/student years [up until the end of OotP, if you are applying for a Hogwarts student...please be sure to include how the events of the first few Potter books affected your character...etc): Penelope was born in 1976 to two newly married muggles, Elizabeth and Mike Clearwater. Her childhood was fairly normal, she was an only child up until the age of six when her younger sister Anne was born but by then Penelope was already displaying 'unusual' signs, though her parents, unaware of the other world which stood beside their own, failed to pick up on them.

It was a few months after her eleventh birthday that Penelope received her letter from Hogwarts. It took a ridiculous amount of persuasion towards her parents but after weeks worth of aggravation from their daughter and after discovering Diagon Alley was, in fact, real, they caved and on the 1st September 1987, Penelope caught the Hogwarts Express and started her years as a Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts.

I can't say that her years there were as expected, how does a young girl having grown up with muggles know what to expect from a school for witches and wizards?!

However, Penelope was a good student there, exceedingly bright and friendly, though not without a dash of determination and eagerness to prove herself, feeling that by having missed out on the upbringing that so many of her peers had that she was somehow behind and lacking what they had. In a muggle school, Penelope would have perhaps received average grades but with it, at Hogwarts, Penelope went onto become top in her favourite classes and prefect and Head Girl in her last years there.

Everything at Hogwarts wasn't rosy for her though, in her sixth year she was petrified by the Basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets and has since left her with a slighy fear for snakes and anything else that slithers. The fear wasn't the only thing that particular event scarred her with, for a good while afterwards Penelope became withdrawn and spent a good few weeks hidden in her dorm room, catching up on the work she missed, eventually coming down after many attempts to coax her back out by her boyfriend at the time, Percy Weasley.
S
ince leaving Hogwarts Penelope hasn't achieved half of what she had hoped she would. Immediately after leaving Penelope was offered a job at her mothers work place, a library in the heart of her home town in Cheshire. She accepted and while intending on keeping it as a temporary position, she stayed for over two years, only leaving after finding an advert in the job section of the Daily Prophet. She is now working at the Ministry as a Secretary in the Department of Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures. It's not the most idea position but she is back amongst her wizarding friends and working in the right department at least.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Kinks/turn ons/turn offs: I don't know what to say. It's always the quiet ones... Penelope appears shy at times but she's quietly confident and, as many women do, she knows what she likes! A big turn on of hers is a man who has goals and ambition just like herself. There's nothing more appealing that somebody that knows what they want out of life. Quidditch players also get the thumbs up but we can all dream can't we?

Political association (if any - this can include your character being supportive of death eaters, of the ministry, of dumbledore, etc...be creative, remember your character is an individual! Also let us know WHY they feel a particular association): Penelope is very much trying to keep out of the war. She supports the Ministry to some degree and if she was aware of the Order I believe she'd be supportive of that group also, however, Penelope feels the less she knows about the war the better. She has no intererest of becoming involved involved in it and isn't shy to make people aware of that fact. She is muggleborn afterall, she put up with enough taunts during her years at school, in her eyes the war is simply a magnified version of the problems with unity within the houses at Hogwarts. In her eyes, blood purity, race, age… she doesn't care.

Intended Journal name (creative names are happy-making, but a default mask_harry, or mask_hermione is fine, too!): clearlymasked

Two potential plot-bunnies!: (It would be great if these tied in to your characters personality, and history - think what they might be aiming for, their goals, dreams and aspirations - we are perfectly happy for one of these plot-bunnies to be ship-related (though we'd like for you to have some good reasoning behind it) but one non-ship plot bunny would be greatly appreciated!)
I would love for Penelope to be a little less good-two-shoes that people seem to make out. I can see her being focused and ambitious (afterall, she has to have some traits which young Mr Weasley found attractive in her back when they were students (whether or not they have a relationship of any kind these days). I don't want for her to be a horrible person, I can see her being quite friendly and kind but I want her to have goals and to be ambitious to the point to where she'll do almost anything to obtain them. She'll not get involved in the war directly but if she was approached or knew of somebody who could help her (to push boundaries in her work, etc) I think she'd bend the rules. She's a Ravenclaw through and through, a very intelligent young lady, but she's easily persuaded. I'd love for her to get into some kind of trouble like that and perhaps not be fully aware of what she's landed herself in.

It'd be great if she got into a ship somewhere too, but that all depends on how things go in the game... other players and all that jazz. It's not important but it'd be nice, I like 'all round' Rping. I never understand when games rule out relationships altogether, it's just not realistic!

Journal Entry Sample: This Penelope won't be that different from ss_penelope, a fairly recent character of mine (only difference is her job / relationships) so if it helps there are many examples of my writing as her in there, the style won't change. I'm happy to write a fresh journal entry if you'd prefer but it'll possibly be tomorrow now (I'm just about to leave work for the day and pop off to finish my Xmas shopping! Woot!). Please let me know if this is a problem! :)

RP Sample (third person narrative, please): Same as above. Examples in Soul Searching.
