Fall TV Shows Update

Oct 13, 2014 02:17

Spoilers for all aired episodes under the cuts.

Arrow and The Flash. Listed together because they're so closely linked. Also, casting-related spoilers for future episodes.
Andy Mientus was cast as the Pied Piper, a Rogue who in comics lore eventually becomes good friends with the Flash. I'd never heard of Andy before this, so this is not a comment about his being cast, but, I was half-expecting them to cast another Prison Break alum (especially after reading this article where The Walking Dead creator says they should dispel the idea that they're stunt casting people from The Wire and keep hiring people from The Wire LOL). Also, after seeing pictures of Andy, I think he has a similar look to Marshall Allman. Wouldn't that have made for a nice reunion! XD

Another quote about Wentworth and Dominic's casting from an interview with the EP: “I was on set talking to [Wentworth] and I asked, ‘Hey, if we were going to have you team up with somebody, is there someone you want to work with?’” said Johns. “We talked about the character a bit and he said, Dominic, without missing a beat” I'M STILL NOT OVER THIS <3_____<3

Also, I was reading more of The Flash, and came across this picture:

While I don't think that they're going to be making Heat Wave a metahuman (total guess on my part, but I don't think they would want to take away the parallels with Captain Cold, aka the "Temperature Twins"), I would bet good money that Dominic's Heat Wave is going to have an open shirt LOL.

Recent spoilers on Captain Cold make him out to be more sophisticated and less blue collar than he was in the comics. Kind of not sure how to feel about this, because I'm beginning to feel like this is going to be (a more morally grey) Michael Scofield 2.0. It would be nice to see Wentworth playing a character who isn't all ~intelligent~ but early spoilers are spoilers, so we'll have to see how that goes.

I thought the Arrow was just ok, except for the final scene which I was TOTALLY NOT EXPECTING. I mean, I kind of figured Sara's death was coming down the line sometime because of comic lore, but I didn't think it would be so soon! D:

The Oliver/Felicity parts bored me, because I just don't ship it. I like Felicity, but I think her cute/quirky awkwardness gets too forced and OTT-bordering-on-cringeworthy in the Olicity scenes. Plus, now that I think about it, I don't think Oliver has a lot of chemistry with anyone on the show. Possibly Diggle? Plus I saw a comment on Reddit where someone mentioned Oliver/Thea before they realized Thea was his sister, and now I can't get that out of my head. But Olicity? Nope, not working for me.

I also didn't think that Peter Stormare did a very good job in the episode. I guess they couldn't have the new Vertigo be exactly the same as the old one, but still, I felt like the character was a bit empty. I hope he's not really dead-dead though.

Doctor Who I've been quite bored with this season, unfortunately. While I like Capaldi as the Doctor, and I'm liking Clara better this season than the last, I still find it hard to root for her. I did like the MOTW part of this week's episode, but it just didn't feel very fun, which is pretty much the whole reason I watch DW. The preview for next week's episode seems creepy though, and DW has a pretty good track record with scary episodes, so I'm looking forward to that one.

How To Get Away With Murder Am I the only one majorly shipping Michaela/Connor? Or at least, I was, up until halfway through 1x03. I thought Michael was WAY over-reacting at the reveal that her fiancé and Connor had had sex way back when they were teens. She mentioned that they'd talked about all their exes, but IDEK if Connor could be considered an "ex", since it was never even mentioned that they were in a relationship. I think Michaela was actually my favourite character before this, because she seemed the most normal/relatable with her freak-outs, maybe (and no, I don't think Wes is all that normal because I think he has a lot going on and is going to end up being the most on board about the whole murdering thing).

I'm a little torn on this show, because I really enjoyed the pilot, but now the characters aren't as compelling as I hoped they would be. Also, while I'm sure there are a bunch of red herrings in the flash forwards before Sam's killer is revealed, we've seen a lot to speculate on, and what I'm thinking so far isn't all that interesting. And I'm not a big fan of the flashback/flash forward/time skip thing in TV shows anyways, so. I'll see if the next episode will keep me watching.

Selfie. Dropped it. It's just SO BAD. I was pretty much just watching it as an excuse to see Karen Gillan play dress-up, but the dialogue and jokes are cringe-worthy levels of bad.
