December Meme - First Online Fic You Read + some SPN stuff

Dec 06, 2013 18:57

So on Wednesday I caught a cold that's basically kept me in bed, dead to the world for the last two days. But here I am for my first posting of the December meme!

Prompt: the first online fic u read and how u encountered it (from
chagrined)
I had this big long thing ready to post about the first fanfic I ever read, but then I tried googling it, and it turns out I might have been confusing that fic with a different one all this time? I mean, I've been in fandom for... maybe about twelve years or so? So my memory's a bit fuzzy.

Here's what I thought the first fic I read was about:
-an epically long Gundam Wing fic, posted on FF.net with the sex scenes (remember when they called them "lemons" LOL) cut out and the full version posted on their website.
-pairings included 1x2, 3x4, and Wufei with... someone, I forget who.
-it had a Japanese title
-it involved either Heero or Duo growing Shinigami wings
-it was GODDAMN EPIC. Like, hundreds of thousands of words long.

So I googled and found Sainan no Kekka. It is epically long, and the title does sound familiar. But a quick skim through the headers seem to point to it being a gen fic, but I can't be bothered to read through all 500,000+ words of it. My best guess is that my fuzzy memory has somehow combined two fics into one.

Either way, I was introduced to this fic by my sister. Although surprisingly, despite her being more into Gundam Wing, I am way more fannish in general than she is.

And that was really the first fanfic I read that got me into reading fanfic. After that it was more Gundam, then Witch Hunter Robin, and shortly after some seriously messed up Resident Evil and Devil May Cry stuff that, looking back on it, I'm surprised didn't scar me for life. But at the time, I read it all with a horrified sort of innocent fascination.

As for SPN, I don't have much to say other than, I am surprised that Being Human US has done as well as it did, because by all accounts, Carver seems to be an absolutely terrible showrunner. Or maybe it's Singer's fault, IDK. But there were so many things wrong with 9.09 I can't even begin to count them.

Although Jerry Wanek is right, the bar set was pretty cool. Here are some of my pics from the set. Sadly, they were still building it when I stopped by, so I couldn't get very close because of safety reasons.

Will get back to replying to comments and such later, but right now I'm due for another nap.
