Ultra knackered

Jun 15, 2008 11:52

So I survived the 50km 'ultramarathon' completing it in 4h31 and change (and unlike the Nice half I'm not going to whine about the 1 minute and change). At the same time I also completed my first marathon doing that in 3h45 or so (i.e. I did the last 8 km in a pretty slow 45 minutes. I took 45 minutes to do the first 10km less a little bit. Other times of interest: half marathon in 1h45, 30km in 2h30

However while I'm plesed for me (and I'm either going to write an extension to this post or a next one with more details) I'm even more pleased for my wife. She came third  for the 50km women which is outstanding and scored her all sorts of interesting prize stuff.

What saves my male chauvinism is that she took 1 hr longer than I did AND I beat even the first place woamn by 20-30 minutes.

I was also the first gaijin, but not the only one Chris 'Crusader' Lewis who I knew when we lived in Tokyo also competed but due to a groin strain finished in some godawful time like 6 hours or more.
