I will not give anything away, plot wise. But please, see this movie.
Jennifer Hudson steals the show, period. As in, Beyonce who? The role she plays is absolutely not a supporting role, no way no how. She is the star. And her voice is crazy.
I can't remember the last time I have been in a movie theater and there was applause in the middle of the movie from the crowd. And that happened after Jennifer Hudson sang. It was incredible. Good lord.
the costumes? killer. breathtaking. as well as the hair and make up.
Eddie Murphy does a damn fine job as Jimmy Early. A surprising role for him, after his run of Jerry Lewis remakes and kiddie shit. There is a look he gives one of the other characters near the end of the movie that is so powerful, it was hard to take. It just spoke volumes about what his life was like. Gave me chills. And this is Eddie fucking Murphy.
I would love for this movie to take the Oscars by storm. It would be so amazing for a movie about brown people struggling in the entertainment industry to win at the Oscars.
I am now inspired to seek out the story of the Supremes and Motown to learn more about it. I wish I had known more watching the movie. But perhaps it would have tainted it.
