To give an update, we ended up getting booked onto a flight that was part of one of our original options (which came in at 6 also, but at least it didn't get cancelled), a small Regional jet that ended up snowing on all us passengers as we sat for a good 10 minutes more than usual because the air conditioning was turned up too high.
