- The tree - Christmas tree? Yule tree? Saturnalia tree? anyway ... - is still up in the living room. Meanwhile, the windows are open in the bedroom. Also, when I left for work this a.m., I noticed patches of grass greening outside. Of course, my state legislature has mandated that our official response to sea-level rise is - almost literally - "lalala I can't hear you," so what's there to worry about, yeah? Climate change, what?
- I'm already behind in my reading schedule for the year - I should have anticipated my resistance to Plato. If only he weren't such a troll. Socratic method, my ass.
- In other news, I spent a bit of time procrastinating over at the Hobbit kinkmeme yesterday (because anonymously written fanfiction of dwarves soulbonding with hobbits > Plato-written fanfiction of Socrates trolling Sophists, apparently), and there's spots that seem to be awash in Legolas/Gimli love. Where have all these people been for the past 10 years? Also, I approve of the steadily growing cottage industry of Bofur-love. Because that was, indeed, a cunning hat. Dwarf walks down the street in that hat, you know he's not afraid of anything. Thing I do not understand, however: there seems to be more fawning over Kíli, despite Fíli being clearly the hotter of the two.
- Also Hobbit-related: Surely I am not the only one who's noticed the resemblance Martin Freeman has, at certain angles in hobbit getup, to Billy Boyd? (This seems most likely to show itself in profile, I think.) Is this clever casting, or merely serendipitous, I wonder? Because it helps play up the Took connection.
Coming up later: Soup Tuesday part deux, my adventures in Piety and possibly some fawning over Thorin Oakenshield. It's amazing to me how much hotter Armitage is as Thorin than as ... well, himself. (Sorry, Richard. But omg, Thorin. Who knew?)
