This one's nothing special, but boy does everyone act like she is.

"Hey, Naoki, I was wondering, how would you like to come round mine tonight, ya know, to study." I looked up at him with an eyebrow raised. "You're kidding right?" He didn't answer and I sighed. "Not today Light." He frowned. "Why not?" I continued to read my book, not even bothering to look at him. "Why d'ya think?" He still continued to frown. " ( Read more... )

Can I say I'm not surprised that Death Note attracts Mary Sue writers? For some reason, girls are attracted to the dark mysterious type without even bothering to think about WHY they are that way. And of course, the mystery part of the fandom means that these girls think they need to be smart too to match these guys who are utter geniuses. Except... these girls are smarter then both these dudes, which isn't funny.

I reckoned that sues always gravitated towards the fandoms teeming with sexy heartthrobs, like One Piece or Final Fantasy. L is so obviously strange and creepy, yet they love him. It defies the logic of sues everywhere, yet its so consistent its terrifying.

What's really sad is that all the girls smarter than these guys are actually, much much dumber, they just dumb down everyone else to appear smarter. I guess its true what they say; you can't polish a turd.

I always thought Death Note had its fair share of heartthrobs. Light, Mikami and Namikawa come to mind. Heck, there's a character for every taste in there.

That's true, but none of the sues want them! They all want L. They turn Light into a rapist, they patently ignore Namikawa, and they never seem to want Mikami, with the exception of a few.

I think I missed the intra-sue memorandum where they explained that you can't be in love with the villain, only bring him to his knees with desperate love for you.

Always L? Actually, I've seen over at Pottersues quite a few Sues that happen to be having Voldemort fall in love with their Mary Sue and she had an entire week dedicated to this kind of pairing. Over in Bleach, it is Aizen, Naruto I hear has it's villian love. And these Suethors who write these kinds of fics don't like being told their whole thing is improbable.

In general, L sues are scary, Light sues are scarier and make you wish it was only an L sue.

And then B sues...

Reminds me of the Bleach fanfic where the Sue bragged about being smarter then Toshiro because she graduated sooner then he did from the academy but showed absoluty no smarts at all.
