“Kayley … Kayley … Kayley! KAYLEY!”
Bam! I looked up from the floor where I had landed when I fell out of my bed. I rubbed my back as I glared at my younger brother Trevor.
“Did you forget what today is, Sis?” Trevor asked.
I went over my mental list I had made last night. Get up. Get dressed. Brush teeth and Hair. Get Pokemon. Eat. Finish packing …
“OH MY GOD! HOW COULD I FORGET! I START MY JOURNEY TODAY! OUT! I HAVE TO GET DRESSED!” I shrieked at Trevor was I jumped up and started rushing around the room. OMG! I’m a whole half hour late!” I silently yelled to myself.
“I have been your assistant for the past five years, Professor. I know a lot of things about pokemon. Sure, most Magikarp are dumb, weak and senselessly flop around on the ground, but I have cared for this pokemon for the last month, since he came in. He doesn’t uselessly flop around, he is intelligent, and he’ll get even more intelligent when he evolves, not to mention that he’ll become one of the most powerful pokemon. Come out Magikarp!” I happily exclaimed, releasing Magikarp from his pokeball.
“Karp!” He seemed to know this wasn’t play time or feeding time.
Oak examined the Magikarp thouroly for the fist time since it had come in. It was an unusual gold color and wasn’t flopping around. Kayley picked it up and cradled it carefully. Another difference between it and a normal Magikarp was that it didn’t sound its head off endlessly repeating its name. Its eyes were filled with intelligence, much more like a normal pokemon’s than a Magikarp’s normal glazed stare.
“So, I was thinking that a good name for you would be Azul, because when you evolve you’ll become a beautiful blue color and Azul means blue. What do you think?” The Professor was about to reply when he realized the Kayley was talking to the Magikarp.
“Karp!” The pokemon happily cried.
“Okay, I have to return you for now, but I’ll let you out when I reach the stream, okay Azul?”
“Magi.”
Kayley gently tapped Azul with his pokeball and he returned.
“Kayley, I think that Magikarp is a shiny pokemon.”
“You do? I thought so too!” Kayley happily bubbled.
“Come out Spearow!” I yelled as I released the pokemon.
The ruffled pokemon appeared, oddly resigned. I noticed then how small it was. It seemed to be a young pokemon.
“Spear row Spe ow! (So I get to meet my trainer. Finally!)”
“Hi! I’m Kayley. The reason I didn’t let you out earlier is that I wasn’t sure what you would do.”
“… Spe row? (You understand me?)”
“Yup. I have special earrings that translate pokenese into English for me. Why aren’t you upset about being captured?”
“Spe! Ow spear row row ow spe. (Because! I never fit in I want to travel)”
“Well you’ll get to travel with me! And behind you is Azul the Magikarp.”
“Spearow. (Hello)” The spearow greeted politly.
“Magi gi karp. (Hello. It is nice to meet you.)” Azul answered.
“Okay, introductions over, you need a name. How about … Koumori? It means shadow.”
The Spearow cocked her head from side to side, considering it.
“Sper ow … Spea row! (Koumouri … Koumouri!)” She cried flapping her wings and bobbing her head in agreement.
When Geodude was a mere five feet away, Azul let out a semi-weak water blast. Due to the close range, Brock’s and Geodude’s surprise and rock types weakness against water, the weak blast KO’d Geodude.
“Well, … that was unexpected. Your Magikarp maybe able to use water gun, but that was a weak water gun. It’ll never stand a chance against my Onix!” Brock yelled as he recalled Geodude and sent out Onix.
“This Magikarp knows water gun, but you should be able to take it.” Brock told Onix as it gave Magikarp a disdainful glare. “Tackle attack Onix!” Brock commanded. Onix started charging towards Azul.
“Same routine, more of it. You can do it Azul.” I cheered.
‘Right.’ Azul answered.
‘Boy, he’s not as talkative as normal. Why?’
“He’s concentrating on the battle. When your out there, I think even YOU will stop being such a chatter box.” I commented in reply.
Onix kept charging at Azul. First he was twenty feet away, then fifteen, then ten. And Azul finally unleased his attack. The powerful blast slammed Onix into the ground. It tried to get up but was too weak to be successful. Azul slumped to the ground on the side, very weakened and nearly asleep.
“Alright Azul!” I cheered!
‘We won we won!’ Koumouri crowed as she flew around Azul.
