Cleo

My very sweet mother-in-law Cleo has been having problems for a while now. We now know for sure it is all related to Alzheimer's. She has the mild beginnings of it and we did not notice it at first. When she had gotten sick and gone to the hospital the last time it was all due to a domino effect. She is forgetful. When she is at home she forgets to eat a full meal. She does not go out as much as she could. Which means she does not meet with her girlfriends for lunch anymore. She misses them and that makes her more depressed. This messes with her health and her sleeping pattern. Sleep really affects Alzheimer’s patients. They need a full 8 hours, but they never get the sleep and it only compounds the problem.
In September & October, Mark (the middle brother) was in denial. He did not want his Mother moving into "one of those places", an assisted living apartment. I thought Laura was going to punch him. He wanted to have Cleo move in with his family. He would have a Granny flat built. This made no sense. He would not be there taking care of her. He is never home and neither is anyone else in his family. We are ALL busy. Heck, they did not even make it to Thanksgiving dinner. (Bitter, Party of 1)

Cleo called every family member every day in November with some new drama she was freaking out about. For example: "the blinking car alarm light in her car keeps blinking". Yes dear, it is supposed to, go back inside. It was getting very sad.

After the Nov phone calls Mark decided with the rest of the family to let her move into the assisted living place. The apartment is near lots of shops so they can walk or drive to get around. Cleo still drives and is mostly able to function so this place was the best.

When Laura came down suddenly at the end of November she took Cleo to the doctor to get anti-anxiety medication. Thankfully it is working great. We will know for sure when we all get together for Christmas.
