And here I thought it was only anime cons that were swarming with drama queens...

First the CotMA, now (technically) three of my own photoshotos have gone to Hell thanks to some stuck-up drama llamas! http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?p=3592198#post3592198 (starting from there, and for those who don't already know "skyfirefox" is Shadow) Now compare and contrast all that to:
  • most any other photoshoot that has ever had to change its time once the con schedule was out
  • someone on the Disney thread's reaction to not being scheduled in the "magic" timeslot of right after the parade (hence me thanking them for not being drama llamas)
  • Shadow and me telling people that we don't care that much of the Otakon populace considers anything not currently on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim or not currently popular to cosplay from "old school"- we said "1990 or before" and we're stickin' to it
  • Final Fantasy groups only for certain FF games (either a specific one or, for example, just the SNES-era games)
  • the number of times I've had to clarify that by "non-anime" I mean "not from Japan"

It's like someone on the D*C LJ said about the CotMA (paraphrased): I really can't believe how bad that got, and I really don't see why anyone should have even been upset.
Here's something I wanted to post on the offending thread, but didn't: I'm only gonna say this: I always think of a photoshoot as the host's regardless of whether I'm the host myself or the host is anyone I know. No "labeled private", "invitations", nor "being personally paid by the creator/copyright holder" necessary. This thread is literally the only place I've ever seen the "it's not yours unless it's private and by invitation" or "you have no right to lead it unless you were sanctioned by the creator/copyright holder" attitude, and I've been in and out of many photoshoot threads even for ones I'm not hosting and in some cases even ones I'm not participating in at all (to gauge what friends might be doing, whether a certain location might be unavailable, and/or because I'm running the master list for that con like I am here).  And some of those have been varying degrees of restrictive, too, and have had the host say they need to change the time and/or location (sometimes even very last minute) without people flipping out and saying half the stuff that's been said here. Honestly, not a single other person here speaks for "the masses"/"the majority" any more than I do, so please stop throwing those words back at me. There may yet be people who can still make (perhaps even prefer) the earlier time. Heck, someone could put an HP photoshoot on Thursday (no, not offering or suggesting one) since they will actually be a considerable number of con attendees present then for pre-reg. The reason [a mod] posted here is because the drama had gotten so out of hand I asked her to close the thread, but obviously by the time she got here the dust had settled until B****C******* (albeit accidentally) reopened the wound. I'm not going out of my way to promote their Friday photoshoot, though, aside from putting it on the master list (which I was very tempted not to do). I am, however, making the non-panel-non-contest-interfering Friday shoot as well as Saturday and Sunday's "events" on That Other Site (and indeed those are the only ones I'll mention on the group there which go figure only one person, perhaps unaware of the drama, has joined) and in postings to the D*C LJ communities. My Disney and '80s photoshoots, thankfully, have not encountered such drama. It's times like this I wonder why I bother to host photoshoots at all, but then there's always that handful of people (some of whom sadly won't be able to read this 'cause I don't know their LJ names or only met them once and never heard from them again) who make it all worthwhile.

(ETA: Since this is no longer friendslocked, those "who sadly [wouldn't have been] able to read this" obviously now can. Also, CotMA=Cult of the Marriott Atrium- i.e. a handful of people who thought me discouraging the practice of holding group photoshoots on a main thoroughfare was somehow akin to telling them not to breathe, that I was an arrogant idiot, that I, a cosplayer, didn't understand what cosplay was all about. Not unlocking those posts; that last sentence says all anyone needs to know about all that.)
