Well, this trip seems to be totally jinxed. Had to fly from Gatwick on Sunday, so left home at 6am to get there in time. Virgin Atlantic lounge at Gatwick is nowhere near as nice as the one at Heathrow - my eggs benedict was clod, and the 2nd latte I had was made with ordinary milk, not soya milk I think because it left me feeling sick. The 747 we were in must have been the most ancient I've seen in a long while, with a pretty limited in-flight entertainment system! At Orlando, I should have had a 4hr wait (until 8pm) for the onward flight to New Orleans, but when I checked in they said it was delayed until 11:30pm..... After wasting 2hrs in a restaurant, I checked the board again, and luckily the delay had been reduced to 1hr! I finally got to my hotel in New Orleans at 11pm (5am UK time, so I'd been up for 24hrs by then).
For some unknown reason the hotel put me in a wheelchair-adapted room which is total dump and right next to the lifts. When I got to it on Sunday night there was a maintenance bloke there fixing the air-conditioning, so I couldn't just have a bath and go to bed - and the hotel is full so they couldn't move me. Yesterday, they didn't service my room, and when I complained, all they did was leave more toiletries whilst I was out at dinner (which I didn't need), but didn't leave more coffee or water. By the time I got back from dinner I was too tired to go complain again, so I made my own bed and crawled in to it. I hope they do better today, but I don't hold out much hope, as the cleaner was in the room next to mine when I went to the first meeting this morning, but when I went back to get something 2hrs later, the trolly had vanaished, but my room was still not done!
On top of that my wrist and elbow on my right arm keep hurting - they started during the flight and don't seem to be improving, and I've been awake since 3am today. Plus I'm worried about the cats, as Pixie was at the top of the tree in the front garden when I left!
Grump, grump, grump.....just want to be at home!
