Chapter 8
Jaejoong fell flat against Yunho’s sofa staring at the ceiling.
“What’s up with you? Yoochun told me about your fight.” Yunho pushed Jaejoong’s feet away from the seat, he wanted to sit on and handed the other man a glass of wine. “I’m sorry Eugene isn’t home. I know you prefer talking to her.”
“I don’t prefer talking to her. I’d actually rather not. I wouldn’t want to burden her.” Jaejoong adored Eugene, and she was a sister to him. Burdening her with his problems wouldn’t be anything, he’d want to do. He took a large sip of the wine feeling better as the alcohol got into his blood, but he knew it wasn’t enough. This wouldn’t help him enough.
“Oh it’s that bad? You know Eugene would always listen to you, right?”
“I’m not criticising your wife. I love your wife, no I’m not about to sleep with her, but I love your wife, I just don’t feel like talking to her about this. It’ll just make her sad.” Mostly because Eugene was his one friend, he didn’t have a weird or messed up relationship to.
“Fine, fine.” Yunho merely shrugged and waited for Jaejoong to start talking.
“When did we even become friends?” Jaejoong laughed a little at his own question. He couldn’t pinpoint the day it had happened. It had just suddenly happened.
“Somewhere between the two of us having awesome sex and the moment you introduced me to my wife.” Yunho smiled at the memory. That was the reason he would be forever in debt to Jaejoong. Jaejoong had been the one to introduce them, and he was happy about this.
“I guess.” Jaejoong said closing his eyes. “You know, I never thought I’d see the day, I’d be able to introduce my ex to my best friend, and then I’d end up at their wedding a few years later.”
Yunho laughed. “Yeah, when you told me to date Eugene, I actually didn’t think it’d work out. I thought you’d slept with her too and that was just too weird.” He rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, sleeping with Eugene would be too weird!” Jaejoong shuddered and then took a deep breath. “But I’m not here to talk about your lovely wife.” He finally said.
“If Yoochun told you, then you must know I’m putting space between us, but that’s not even what’s fucking with my head right now.” Which was a surprise to Jaejoong, since he definitely would have thought that was it.
“Then what is?” Yunho was always patient. Where Junsu would offer up comfort, Yoochun would give exactly what Jaejoong needed, Yunho would just wait and listen.
“Changmin.” Jaejoong finally admitted. It took him weeks, days, hours to realise this. But Changmin was definitely messing with his head.
“What did he do now?” Yunho narrowed his eyes. When he’d ordered Changmin to go to Jaejoong he’d never imagined this would happen. He hadn’t imagined that Changmin would publically refuse Jaejoong and then continue doing so infuriating the designer more and more. It did amuse him, but he had never thought it would actually hurt Jaejoong.
“Kiss me.” Jaejoong said looking up in despair. “And then run away. He still even has my trousers. I need them. They were too big for him.”
“Wait, back up a moment. He kissed you, ran away, and he has your trousers? They are too big for him? Jae, sorry you’re a lot smaller, than he is. Your hips are far too narrow for him to wear your trousers?” Yunho was getting a bit confused about this.
“Of course I’m smaller than him. What are you talking about? My trousers as in a part of my newest collection that we’re doing a photoshoot on soon,” Jaejoong looked a little oddly at Yunho.
“Oh. Those kind of trousers. I never know with someone like you, it could have been you losing your trousers at some random place, and Changmin picking them up for you or something.” Yunho smiled. It was meant as a joke, but Jaejoong’s eyes narrowed.
“What do you mean ‘someone like me’?” Jaejoong’s voice was far icier, than Yunho had ever heard it.
“Come on Jae. You know, you like to sleep around. I don’t know if you lose your trousers somewhere on regular basis.” Yunho said though he was a bit concerned on what was going on.
“Yes, I fucking know I love sex. Why is everyone giving me such a hard time about it? What’s the problem with it?” Jaejoong’s voice was getting louder by the minute.
“Jae, relax. I didn’t mean to offend you. Gee, what’s going on?” Yunho was getting confused and even his patience was running out.
Jaejoong was getting more and more tired about people saying things about him and sex. He was enjoying his life and his youth, so where was the big deal? First during his childhood he’d been told not to have sex. Of course being told not to do something meant that he would do it over and over again, so as a teenager he started having lots of sex. Then he learned that it was both healthy and good to have sex. So he continued, because he liked it.
“Oh just stop, I sleep around, I’m a whore, I probably have a ton of STDs, I’m cheap, what more do you want to say?” Jaejoong got up from the couch. “I actually thought you’d understand.”
“Jae, wait! Stop moving.” Yunho’s hand stopped Jaejoong from moving and pushed him on the couch again. “Remember, I’ve slept with you. You always use condoms. Even with Yoochun you use them, you don’t have any STDs.”
Jaejoong pushed the hand on his chest away.
“What? You want a piece of me again? Too bad I don’t sleep with men who are married to women I like.” Jaejoong’s tone was bitter.
He didn’t. He didn’t like to make men cheaters. He would do anything to help himself prevent that, though there were those few men, who were married and had slept with him. More often than not though he ended up feeling awful about it afterwards. It did something to the family, when one partner cheated on the other. It wasn’t healthy and Jaejoong didn’t want to be a part of anything like it. He’d seen enough of it. He’d been there, done that and regretted it ever since.
“Jae, just fucking slow down! What is going on? Is this still about Changmin?” Yunho’s hand stayed on him even if Jaejoong had tried pushing it away.
“No it has nothing to do with Changmin. Well, except for the fact that he said, I’m a whore? Yeah, nothing to do with him. And nothing to do with the fact that his lips felt so good against, mine and he refuses to touch me, because I’m a fucking whore, so now I have nothing left to do. I can’t change the past and not sleep around in order for him to actually want to touch me. And I shouldn’t even care, what he thinks of me or whether or not, he wants to touch me.” Jaejoong glared at Yunho even if he did know Yunho wasn’t the reason he was this angry.
“Changmin called you a whore, and then kissed you? Or said he didn’t want to touch you, and then kissed you? And you liked kissing him? Wait a moment, Jae, are you in love with him? Because that’s the freaking only reason I see, why you would fucking care whether or not Changmin called you a whore and want to touch you.” Yunho was staring at Jaejoong, when the smaller man froze and stopped struggling against the hand on his chest falling back against the couch again.
“I’m not in love with him. He’s just messing with my head. He says, he doesn’t want to touch me, and then suddenly I find his lips against mine. What’s that supposed to make me think? And I have the best fucking kiss of my life, and then he just bolts. With my trousers on I might add. And now I can’t do my work on them, so they look too big, and he’ll look horrible at the photoshoot, except he wouldn’t be able to look horrible even if he tried, because he’s so fucking hot, and he doesn’t want me.” Jaejoong decided to stop his rant. It made him sound like an angsty teenage girl with boy-problems and he didn’t like that. Ranting always made him tired. Ranting wouldn’t get him anywhere. Except that it was getting him everywhere and it was helping him.
“Jae, just relax and rewind. I don’t know, why Changmin kissed you, and I don’t know why bolted afterwards, and I certainly don’t know, why the kiss was the best one you’ve ever had, but I’m kind of offended that I’m not your best kiss.” Yunho smiled hoping that his joke would lighten the mood.
“Oh shut up. You were never even close to my best kiss. Changmin’s kiss was like.” Jaejoong didn’t even know how to describe it, but he smiled as he thought about that moment and bit his lip before licking his it.
“It was like the spring, the summer, the autumn and the winter all coming together in one perfect moment?” Yunho nodded knowingly. “I know it sounds cheesy, but really that’s the only way I can describe it.”
“Yeah.” Jaejoong smiled again his voice more breathy now. “How did you know?”
“Because that’s, what it feels like kissing Eugene.” Yunho gave Jaejoong a sad smile, “talk to Changmin. That’s the only way to solve this.” With that he patted Jaejoong’s knee and went to the kitchen. Jaejoong merely sat there staring out in the air.
The air had all the answers. Or maybe it didn’t. Yunho was right. He had to talk to Changmin, but he had no idea what they had to talk about, or how they were going to talk about it. How did you just tell someone that they confused you so much? He sighed. “Yunho? Need any help in the kitchen?” Yunho was a disaster in the kitchen, and Jaejoong had to help him. Otherwise Eugene would kill him for leaving Yunho without supervision in the kitchen cooking dinner. And with that he got up from his seat and into the kitchen to join his friend. Cooking would be a nice distraction.
~…~…~
The next day Jaejoong was sitting in the big sewing room waiting for Changmin. It was oddly quiet in here, but everyone else had a day off.
“I’m sorry, I forgot taking off the trousers yesterday.” Changmin handed Jaejoong the trousers back as he walked up to the designer.
“Don’t worry. Please put them on again. I still need to fix them.” Jaejoong’s voice was a bit resigned, and Changmin hadn’t expected this. He had expected another fit from Jaejoong and possibly some more yelling. Not this resigned tone.
A couple of minutes later Changmin returned with the trousers on. Bending down Jaejoong took a brief moment to admire the legs above him, before he started putting in pins and needles making sure they were as tight as he wanted them.
“I’m going to need to do some last minute adjustments to these before the photoshoot. They’re going to be tighter than this, but you won’t be able to put them on if I make them tighter, so I’ll just sew the rest on at the photoshoot tomorrow.” Jaejoong was having a hard time speaking. Not when those legs were just right there, and he was touching them.
“Okay. That’s okay. I can work with that. Do you need anything else for the shoot? All the other clothes are okay.” Changmin said.
“I know, but I need to see it, just to make sure. Can you go change please? I’ll be here. I can’t believe I messed it up. Sorry.” Jaejoong smiled a little bit and then turned back to the sewing machine accepting the trousers not letting his mind wander to the fact that Changmin was standing wearing only boxers looking more beautiful, than Jaejoong could have ever imagined, “don’t wear boxers tomorrow. Wear something tighter, I don’t want the fabric you’re wearing underneath to be showing.” Jaejoong merely said.
Jaejoong looked up when Changmin came to him and showed him the next outfit. “I’m sorry, I’m having you come in on your day off.” Jaejoong said sighing when he walked over to the man pulling and tugging in the places double checking everything.
“These are fine. Next?”
They continued through all of Changmin’s outfits, until they were finally done. Changmin had been right. It was only the trousers he had worked on at first that had been the issue. Surprisingly a whole day of working together and they hadn’t even fought at all. It was a huge improvement to the past couple of weeks.
“So.” Changmin walked up to Jaejoong sitting down on a chair, he pulled over.
“What are you doing?” Jaejoong looked up confused and suddenly got angry for the first time today. And they had been doing so well. Well of course they hadn’t really been talking as much as they had done fittings.
“Sitting here talking to you? Is that wrong? Yoochun does it all the time?” Changmin was sitting there as if it was the only thing he could do.
“Yoochun is my friend. You are not.” Jaejoong simply said.
“I know.” Suddenly Changmin’s face looked crestfallen and that confused Jaejoong even more than anything else that had happened.
“Okay. This isn’t going to work out. Changmin, you tell me I’m a whore and that you don’t want to touch me, yet you kiss me. After you give me the best kiss of my life you bolt wearing my trousers, and then you come back here and you’re all civil, yet you’re probably still thinking about how much of a whore I am and then you make that face while saying you’re not my friend. What the fuck is going on? And I won’t accept any answer besides the truth, so start talking.” Jaejoong was never really one to just sit and chit-chat with someone when they were confusing the hell out of him. He preferred to just cut right through the chase.
“Oh quit being so dramatic. I’m rather pleased I’m the best kiss in your life. Must be quite impressive coming from you.” Changmin couldn’t hide the sarcasm in his voice.
“Oh for fuck’s sake just cut the crap! I told you to cut the crap. So stop acting like a jerk and tell me why the hell you kissed me and then ran away?” Jaejoong had sworn not to let Changmin look angry, but he was angry. He was getting angry quickly.
“I don’t know why I kissed you. I just did. I don’t want to touch you and I don’t want to kiss you, but for some reason it’s all I’m freaking thinking about. So yeah, I’m sorry for giving you a hard time, because I don’t want to kiss you, but I want to kiss you so badly.” When Changmin said those words Jaejoong literally felt his heart leap to his throat.
This was getting more and more confusing. Changmin didn’t want to touch him, but he wanted to kiss him a lot. This wasn’t making any sense.
“You.” Jaejoong took a deep breath. “You don’t want to kiss me, but you want to kiss me.” Jaejoong whispered the words.
“Yes.”
“I want you to kiss me.” Jaejoong was looking at the fabric in his hands and in the sewing machine and well. Everywhere but at Changmin.
“I want to kiss you.” Changmin’s voice was hoarse and he moved his chair to sit next to Jaejoong closer to the man. “But I can’t.” He stopped himself getting any closer.
“Why?” Jaejoong really wasn’t getting any of this, but then again. He had never tried having his heart beat this fast when another person was being close to him and not even touching him. His whole body was reacting. And he couldn’t even say it was because the looks of the man, because he was surrounded by beautiful people all day.
“Because you’ll just hurt me.” Changmin whispered.
“Why do you think that?” Jaejoong looked a bit sad at that. Why was there no faith in him?
“Because that’s what you do. You make people believe that you want to get to know them, then you kiss them, get into bed with them, if they’re lucky you sleep there and if not you get out of the bed while they’re asleep and they wake up alone.” Changmin said looking away.
“Changmin.” Jaejoong finally met the younger man’s eyes feeling the pain coming of the other man. “I.” What was he supposed to say?
“What? You’re going to change? You’re going to not sleep around and actually have an adult relationship with someone? I don’t believe that. Once a whore, always a whore.” Changmin’s voice was bitter.
“I really want to kiss you. I really want to kiss you a lot. And I want to get to know you. What can I do to prove it?” The realisation that this was what he wanted confused the hell out of Jaejoong. He hadn’t known this before, but the more he talked the more it made sense. He didn’t just want to sleep with Changmin. He wanted to sleep with Changmin hundreds of times. Not just once.
“I don’t believe you, because I don’t trust you.” Changmin’s voice was harsh, but it was better than the voice he usually used. The one filled with contempt and hatred. At least harsh was easier to deal with.
“What if I promise to stop sleeping around? If I don’t sleep with anyone as a proof to you that I am serious about you.” Jaejoong offered once again startled by his own promise. What was it exactly that he wanted? He really needed to talk to Yoochun about this. Because he had no idea what was going on. He had never said things like these. He had never even tried so hard to get into someone’s bed.
“What? Some new game to you? Get Changmin, because he doesn’t want you?” Changmin asked.
“No. I could get anyone else and it’s far easier. Why would I play a game? I want to get to know you. Something about you. Something about that freaking kiss won’t leave my mind, and I hate it. I hate you for it and I’m so annoyed, but there’s nothing I want more than to kiss you again, so if you’d please tell me what I have to do to get one other taste of that.” Jaejoong never pleaded. He didn’t plead, he didn’t beg and he didn’t ask more than once for something. Because he always got what he wanted.
“I don’t want this to be some kind of game. But,” Changmin stopped and smiled a little. That smile made Jaejoong’s heart flutter a little bit, and he quickly buried that feeling. “No sex for a month and then we can talk about it.” Changmin said firmly. “And that also means no sex with Yoochun, no kissing anyone. Nothing.”
“I’m not going to sleep with Yoochun anyway.” Jaejoong said sighing. “You’ve got yourself a deal.” They shook hands on this and both couldn’t help but smile. This was a little bit weird, but at least it worked for now.
“Why not?” Changmin enquired curiously.
“I can’t tell you that. It’s not my secret, it’s not my thoughts, but it’s my choice and it’s my problem.” Jaejoong said firmly. He wouldn’t want Yoochun’s life to be all over the place.
“You’re pretty loyal to him, aren’t you?” Changmin placed a hand on Jaejoong’s knee softly tracing a small pattern. It drove Jaejoong crazy. He just wanted to grab Changmin, throw him against the wall and kiss the life out of him.
“Of course I am. He’s my best friend. He has been for years.” Jaejoong smiled, “he was my first.”
“Your first? Back when you had no idea what you were doing?” Changmin started laughing, and Jaejoong found that the sound was beautiful. It was wonderful and it was a sound he wanted to hear more often. He noticed the way Changmin’s eyes were mis-matched when he laughed, and he couldn’t help but smile back. The laugh made him want to smile.
“Yeah. Hard to believe right?” Jaejoong smiled a bit and then suddenly remembered all the fabric he was working on. “Changmin, I’ve got to finish these before tomorrow.” He said regretting that he had to tell the beautiful man to leave.
“Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow then.” Changmin got up from his chair. “Jaejoong, I really hope you’re able to keep your promise to me.”
The words kept ringing in Jaejoong’s ear as he worked on the trousers. He was going to do everything in his power to keep that promise. Which meant going through a party without kissing anyone. He could do that. He could definitely do that. Eyes on the price. Eyes on the price.
